"Stop Asking Your Friends What to Text Her"

Your buddy Dave has been single for three years and thinks "hey u up" is a valid strategy. Your other buddy Mike just got dumped and told you to "just be yourself."

You showed them her text. You asked them to decode the emoji. You drafted four responses and sent the screenshot to the group chat for a vote.

She's been waiting forty minutes.

Put the phone down. Stop crowdsourcing your love life. Type something that sounds like you. Hit send. Then go do literally anything else with your evening.

Well I noticed since I started going out with her, some things have changed. First, the music she listens to has "magically" switched from the poppish stuff she liked (britney spears I guess?) to what I listen to. Things she's only heard when she's with me she says "Oh I love that song!". Her clothing style is starting to match mine more and more, and her attitude is going from more of a sarcastic or bleak outlook to happy and optomistic (like mine). When I'm sad, she's sad. When I'm happy, she's happy. Oh and I play guitar. She bought a guitar a couple days ago.

I'm baffled and intrigued. All at once. Someone care to explain what's going on? Is this normal?

"She Wants a Man, Not a Boy"

You asked her if she wanted to grab coffee. Then you asked if the time worked. Then you asked if the place was okay. Then you asked if she'd prefer tea.

Four questions. Four chances for her to say no. Four signals that you're terrified of making a decision.

Plan it. Pick the place. Pick the time. Tell her where to meet you. She'll either show up or she won't.

Either way, you look like a man instead of a scared little boy.

Sounds like she's just really into you. And maybe she doesn't yet have a real good grasp on who she is. I dunno.

I think it would be kind of flattering and cool for a while, but I could see it getting old. Variety is the spice of life.

Sounds to me like she wants acceptance. Maybe she doesn't know what she wants or knows who she is? It may be kinda cool now, but a little difference isn't all that bad.. in fact it keeps things interesting. I wouldn't be surprised if she started getting on your nerves here in a little bit.

"Why Women Dump the Guys Who Try the Hardest"

You paid for dinner. You drove. You said "whatever you want is fine" every single time. All the effort, no expectations.

And she left anyway — probably for a guy who makes her pick up the pizza.

Painful. Also predictable. Her mind quietly concludes that anything requiring zero effort from her is worth exactly zero. You became a free sample, and free samples get taken for granted.

The 22 Rules flip the dynamic. Small shifts that get her investing effort, money, and time in you — until SHE'S the one afraid of losing YOU.

It's simple.. acceptance and a way to connect. Doesn't mean anything more.

Sounds like you have a good thing going - she is obviously really into you, and wants to feel closer to you. It really seems that when two people feel strongly for each other, they tend to change to become more like each other. My girlfriend's tastes in music have changed slightly (she was already listening to stuff like Evanescence and 3 Doors Down, so Linkin Park wasn't a big step), and both of us have taken greater interest in the other's hobbies.
