"Stop Asking Your Friends What to Text Her"

Your buddy Dave has been single for three years and thinks "hey u up" is a valid strategy. Your other buddy Mike just got dumped and told you to "just be yourself."

You showed them her text. You asked them to decode the emoji. You drafted four responses and sent the screenshot to the group chat for a vote.

She's been waiting forty minutes.

Put the phone down. Stop crowdsourcing your love life. Type something that sounds like you. Hit send. Then go do literally anything else with your evening.

Gah... messy situation here. My friend (let's call him Matt) has a sister (let's call her Jane). She's 19, I'm 18. Lately, her and I have been flirting pretty hardcore with each other (lot's of kino and sexual innuendo, and I've also massaged her tits a couple of times while she, Matt, myself, and a few other people were sitting around watching bad zombie movies. I did this discreetly, of course), but tonight things got a little farther than I expected them to.

Jane was with three of her friends, and she called me up tonight to suggest that I join up with them. I told her to come to my house to get me, and we'd take it from there. I also let her know that I was high at the time. The five of us ended up walking around outside for a while before the four of them had to leave. For most of this time, however, Jane kept trying to get me to kiss her, and at one point she was even suggesting that she spend the night with me (which she could have, since my parents and sister are all on vacation, so I have the house to myself for a few days).

Now, as much as I wanted to bang her, or at least get head (since I had no condoms), whenever I considered escalating things, I felt a pang of guilt and immediately thought of my friendship with Matt. After all, Matt is one of my best friends, and I don't want to do anything to ruin that. So essentially I pretended that I was higher than I actually was, and played like I was too "lost in space" to know what was going on. She seemed to buy it, and I avoided kissing her or having her spend the night.

So now I'm conflicted between my desires for Jane (not just for sex, but also for a relationship perhaps, since there's some of that chemistry between her and I as well), and the value I have on my friendship with Matt. At the very least, I've decided that I wouldn't try for anything with Jane without Matt's blessing first. However, I'm not sure if it's a good idea to even try this, since it may make things a little awkward for Matt and I. To be fair though, Matt is friends with many of Jane's exes, and in one case he actually knew the friend before said friend started dating Jane, which is virtually the same situation I'm in now. Therefore, there's some "precedent", and it suggests this wouldn't be much of a problem. Still, I'm feeling a little torn on the issue.

With my rant out of the way (I apologize if it seems a little wordy; I have a tendency to do that), I'd like to ask you guys what you'd do about this, given what's happened so far and also Matt's history with being friends with Jane's exes?

"The Coffee Shop Girl You Never Spoke To"

You've replayed it a hundred times. She stood three feet away, scrolling her phone. You had an opening. You composed the perfect line — after she was gone.

For all you know, she's married now. To some guy who said something. Anything.

Openers are cheap. Almost any sentence works when it's delivered within three seconds. The expensive part is the standing there, drafting and deleting, while the window quietly closes.

The "22 Rules" stripped out my hesitation. What to open with, how to keep it alive, and the one habit that costs guys more women than anything else: waiting for perfect.

interesting. i like this.

it doesnt have to be a messy situation.

having a best friend and also be dating his sister... could always be good too.

You all could be one REALLY close group of friends.

and i like the idea of getting the brothers blessing first.

but if you want to get his blessing, make a list of reasons WHY dating his sister wouldn't be such a bad thing.

He's YOUR best friend, so YOU should know how to ask him about it.

Here's some good reasons for anybody... I think:
-He can beat your ass if you hurt her.
-This will make a really close group of friends.
-He's your best friend, so there's no way you'll ever take a chance to hurt her.
-You won't have to feel guilty doing anything behind is back.

Don't bring up that:
-Because she's hot.
-You both have been getting "friendly".
-She wanted to stay a night.

And DO NOT FEEL BAD. Dude, it's natural to feel attraction for the sister sometimes... as long as ther age is close... or its sick. I think its natural because you hangout with them SO much, there's bound to be some attraction over time eventually. It's natural because you would never treated her badly (i'm assuming) because she's youre best-friend's sister... and vice-versa... and so there's more reason to build up attraction over time.

It's normal.

alright then, tell me what you think. tell me how it goes.

Well, she is her own person and is capable of making her own decisions. If she likes you, then she likes you.

But, if all you want is a lay, then it's not worth it on your part. Ruining a friendship over hitting it a couple times is just dumb. There are more women out there for that purpose.

If you are interested in a relationship, then go ahead. If he says anything about kicking your ass if you hurt her, just tell him that you care about her and would like to see where things could go. As long as you show him you respect his sister, it should be cool.

You guys do like to complicate things.

Sean, ask him if he's ok with it.

That's it.

5: If you've known a guy for more than 24 hours, his sister is off limits forever unless you actually marry her.

"Nervous Around Beautiful Women? There's a Rule for That"

I could talk to any woman I wasn't attracted to. Charming, funny, relaxed. Then a gorgeous woman looked my way and I'd become a sweating, babbling mess.

The fix took me years to find and ten minutes to learn. Nervousness and excitement are the same physical state — pounding heart, adrenaline, flushed face. Your brain just picks the label. And you can pick a better one.

Rule 16 shows you how. You feel the nerves, relabel them as excitement, and let that energy pour out as enthusiasm. Women notice the guy radiating it. They always do.

Yeah, I don't have any intention of just using her for sex (although sex is always welcome :D). I'm most likely going to see both of them tonight, so I'll find the time to talk to Matt alone to see how he feels about it.

Okay, I talked to Matt, and he wasn't cool with it. Not because he doesn't trust me, but because he doesn't trust Jane. Apparently she sleeps around a LOT, and I'd be likely to catch an STD from her. So I guess I made the right move... lol.

Thanks for the replies, though :).

Well, whether it's true or not, it shows that he's not cool with it, therefore I won't do it. Besides, Jane did want to spend the night with me before we had even kissed... so this claim of Matt's doesn't seem all that farfetched :D.

"You'll Never Feel READY to Walk Over"

Next Monday you'll feel more confident. After the gym you'll feel more confident. After one more drink you'll feel more confident. After you get a better haircut, a better jacket, a better job.

You've been "getting ready" for two years.

She's standing ten feet away right now. She'll be gone in four minutes. No amount of preparation will manufacture the courage that only comes from moving your feet.

Walk over. Stumble through the first sentence. Let it be clumsy. Let it be imperfect. You will feel more alive in those ten seconds than you have all month.
