Movies where protagonist dies?

There are very few movies where the main star dies. One of the is Cruel Intentions and the Fight Club (sort of). By coincidence these are my 2 most favorite movies. Do u know of any others?

I am Legend - although there was a director's cut ending where everybody lived.

In the original script for Natural Born Killers, both Mickey and Mallory die at the end, killed by the Owen guy who helps them escape prison. They left the foreshadowing scenes in the movie though.

Bruce Willis dies at the end of Armageddon. Tom Cruise dies at the end of Oblivion. Arnie dies at the end of Christine.

Gladiator (the general/gladiator maximus - played by Russell crowe - is stabbed to death by the emperor)

the matrix (at the end of the third movie, neo sacrifices himself to save humanity)

V for Vendetta

Cool Hand Luke ("What we've got here, is a failure to communicate")

blair witch project (all 3 kids die at the end in the building)

the shining (jack freezes to death while trying to hunt down his son)

reservoir dogs (everyone dies in the end)

sixth sense

the boy in the striped pyjamas

the others (the mother smothered her kids with a pillow and shot herself in the head with a rifle)

I guess I shouldve mentioned Im looking only for dramas. Nevertheless thanks for the list as I see many I should watch.
Its interesting how almost all movies where the main character dies are pretty highly rated. Maybe thats the secret to a good movie? I think this is why Shakespeare's tragedys are also so popular. They should definetly make more like these.

Lots of of crime movies do, Godfather 1,2, Road to Perdition, The Professional off the top of my head.

technically tom cruise didn't die in oblivion, cause he was a clone, and his other clone came back

If you want to watch some seriously f'd up movies, that don't follow the traditional Hollywood "happy ending" check out some of the Korean thrillers / horror movies on Netflix.

There's also plenty of indies on netflix that don't follow normal hollywood structure, but you've got to wade through a lot of crap to find them.
