For the past year I have periodically found dog poop outside my apartment in the stairwell, including yesterday afternoon. Last week it was immediately outside my door, and I knew it was my next door neighbors (a Millennial married couple, age 27 or so, with a 1 year old daughter). I had reported it several times to the landlord but it's hard to prove.
I have no idea why my neighbors would be so inconsiderate of me. I always try to get along with them, I have cooked for them on a couple occasions this past year, and even invited them to dinner on Thanksgiving (they declined). Also, why would you leave poop just feet outside your OWN door?? Meanwhile, they are always leaving trash and diapers outside also (Red Neck 101). I talked to them about it last year.
Anyhow, last night around 10pm I overheard the wife walking the dog by and I spied through the peephole as she paused outside my door. After she went inside, I opened the door and sure enough I found another huge pile of dog feces. I quickly got dressed and knocked on their door - loud enough to shake the Earth.
The "man" of the house, about 27, 6 feet tall, 200lb and lean, came out, with his wife and sister (who I must admit is an HB9 but who they guard like a trade secret) standing behind him. I told them that I saw what happened and that if I ever found dog sh-it again I would make them eat it.
At first he tried to downplay it, saying it was an accident. I reminded him it happened 6 days ago also, and that I had to pick it up. He pointed out that I was trembling over this, as if it was silly to get angry over something like that. It's called Adrenaline. This guy is nearly 20 years my junior, in his prime, and pretty big. Plus there were three of them.
Then he tried to say that he smelled pot before (It was my ex-roommate who would occasionally smoke, and this was coercion) and I told him that in that case he should call the police (they do NOT respond to that btw). As if smelling good sh!t and leaving dog sh!t even out.
Then he started making idle threats, saying "You woke my child. If you EVER come to my door again" and I said "OR YOU'LL DO WHAT? DO YOU WANT TO TAKE A SWING AT ME? GO AHEAD!!" I stood there face to face, ready for him to punch first. Remember that this was a whole year in the making.
But he said "That does it" and ran inside and called the police on me! Luckily I saw them pull up and had a printout of the last time I found poop outside my door (and the letter to the landlord). When I tried to show my neighbor the evidence he said (in front of the cops) "Don't you dare come near me after threatening me". What a wimp. I took him for someone who would at least get a few punches in before I knocked him out.
As you probably know, it's EXTREMELY dangerous when police come in your house. They can pretty much shoot you (or your dog) and walk free. This often happens to the person who called them. There are all sorts of things they can see inside and use against you. Luckily there was no incident, but he asked me questions like "Have you been drinking?" and "Do you have any weapons?". As if I don't have every right to both of those in my own home! It could have got ugly.
Is it just me or was his calling the police a profoundly cowardly act? I had every right to be angry about dog sh-it, and he seemed to think the police were there to protect his dog's right to poop. This was a source of disease, flies and odor in my own home. Not to mention having police visit likely cost taxpayers about $5,000.00. That's the Millennials for you.
Anyhow, my dad always says to keep a cool head at all times. On the other hand I've also observed how seeing a man with a temper can be a big motivator. I'm not sure whether I handled it correctly or not. I told the officer I just want this to be over.
Your feedback is welcome.
