I don't see anything wrong with a messenger bag. I use mine to carry my laptop and digital camera around, or a book if I know I'll have time to get some reading in. Its herringbone tweed and looks awesome as hell.

However there are some "man purses" out there that really serve no purpose as they are about big enough to fit a wallet, keys, and a pack of smokes. Its pretty much redundant as thats what you have pockets for.

I might get a messenger bag if my backpack wasn't perfect. It's designed to carry a laptop in a separate area and it's got more pockets and compartments than I can ever use. Once it dies on me I may get a messenger bag, and a gun to go with it.
