Does anybody know of any websites that specializes in finding information about past friends (locating). I have heard about several online companies taking peoples money and not providing results.

Can anybody recommend any legitimate websites providing this service?

If it's someone you went to high school with you should try www.classmates.com

Other than that...just use a people search and you can probably find them.

By people search do you mean where you type the name's person into a search engine, such as google or dogpile.com with quotes around the name i.e. "John Smith"? This actually can be an effective method, my mom did find somebody from her college days by typing their name into google. Generally though it is a long shot. Try it with your name first and see what you get, most likely the names you find will be doctors, lawyers, and professors (least I did with my name).

Well, sometimes you can find a person that way, but it's better to type in "People Search" and Google will list a bunch of sites specifically for looking for people. You have to know their last name and the state they live in. If they have a listed phone number you should be able to find them using one of those people search sites.
