Looking to join a local militia......

Any of you ever done this sort of thing? I am very interested in it. Wanting to know where I should start. I've heard things about Sheriff's offices opening an armed citizens unit and things like that.

What I DON'T want, is a KKK group or similar.

Tell me more about this 'deputization' program.

My county is pretty much pro-gun, so I don't really have to worry about infringing on rights any time soon. I'm just interested in this sort of thing. I've always thought being a cop would be fun, but the pay wasn't good enough to do it for a living.

on the militia, don't let anyone know how to find you, your real name or job, etc. Leave your car at least half a mile from the meeting, and walk the rest of the way. Those outfits are HEAVILY penetrated by the Feds, by paying a few punks to be snitches, mostly. Don't say that nobody warned you.

Militias are a waste of time. They're mostly filled with religious nuts, racists, and paranoid types.
