Lack of Men In Healthcare

I teach healthcare courses and its mostly women. There are men at the higher levels I guess but the middle and lower levels of healthcare women dominate. This may speak to a larger issue in the labor force. Men seem to have quit the labor force. Most of these classes run 80% women ( im not complaining because its nice eye candy).

I dont blame young men either. Working for a salary is becoming less and less worthwhile. My point is that I finally see what those internet guys were talking about when they said men are dropping out of society.

Healthcare is a service job, so it's traditionally female (doctors aside). A lot of the traditional male jobs have disappeared (but certainly not all). I guess the next thing I would want is hard data showing that a lesser percentage of men are participating in the type of courses you are teaching.

Generally though, I would ask why is seeking a salary less worthwhile for a man than for a woman? Running your own business isn't for everyone. If a woman has reasons to support herself, why doesn't a man? Just because they aren't getting laid on demand? Pretty weak excuse, if you ask me. This is a failure of men, IMO. But also a failure of society as a whole, because boys are not being encouraged like girls have been, and boys have been devalued in the wake of feminism and the lack of male role models, and of fathers in the home.

Yeh you make good points Zekko. The reason I said getting a salary is becoming less worthwhile is because a salary is not keeping up with the cost of living due to inflation. Companies are not paying salaries that coincide with reality and its only getting worse.

Women are usually not as risk taking as men so they are ok being on a sinking ship. Its the same reason why women are still getting college degrees when men have deemed it not worth it.

skilled labor in western countries can still earn more or the same initially as a 4 year degree. they can do it quickly after a training program. either way the path to wealth is how to manage what you have. all things being equal a trade man will be much wealthier than a typical 4 year degree holder at age 30. perhaps with a better life work balance....

its not as simple for women to do well in the labor trades. it can be done, but this is a situation that is not equal. only choice she has it depend on a man, be a secretary...or work in a store... , or more school.

Why would salaries not keeping up with inflation be any different for women as for men? Are men so eager to become parasites living off the government?
As for college degrees, I feel like women are more likely to have parents pay for their college education, or at least part of it. I also wonder if they don't have more resources available to them - scholarships intended to help women since they're supposedly "oppressed" and all.

I agree, and this is a big theme with me: a man has to take stock of his gifts and the resources and opportunities he has available to him. There are many different paths to wealth, every individual is unique. You just have to apply yourself, and increase your knowledge and skill where needed.

For nursing specifically, I think there is still a bit of a stigma regarding male nurses (although there are way more now than there were even 30 years ago). If men enter the medical field, they are expected to become doctors. A male nurse is seen as basically a failed doctor whereas female nurses are often seen in a positive light both for care as well as sexually many times.
