When it was shown worldwide the looting that was going on inside the city of New Orleans, shoting a police officer being shot in the head, stories of young girls getting raped, the stealing of Cars, hijacking 18 wheeler trucks (which is in interestae commerce law inself), it was ovbious to all that not only the federal laws could not be enforced, but the state and local laws could not be enforced, which gave the president the right to send in the armed forces to get the crowd under control.

But while he was doing that, you don't think they could have sent in a few extra military personal to help save people? Pass out food?

I honestly see your view point, but I mean, you gotta take the rose colored glasses off and admit that at least president bush could have handled the situation better then he did.
I believe it would take an Act of Congress to initiate the Insurrection Act.

Regardless, you can't go in under the guise of going in for one purpose and then do something else.

That would be in violation of the law, and you can bet your last dollar Bush's political opponents would be calling for his head had he done that, regardless of how well-intentioned it was.

Bottom line is that there were mistakes all around, but the local and state officials made most of them, and their actions and inactions create headaches and problems for the feds.

Had the Governor done things in a timely manner, the feds would have been able to help out sooner.

I see FEMA director Mike Brown has been re-assigned.

Now, I'm waiting for some accountability on the part of the local and state governments.

Why did the Mayor wait until the day before to call for an evac when everyone else called for an evac 72 hours before?

Why did the Governor wait so long to ask for federal help, which left many people stranded, and without food, water and medicine?

Why didn't the Mayor utilize those school buses to evac, like called for in the city of New Orleans emergencly evac plan?

Your main argument is just a hypothetical one, as blaming the feds for not overriding states rights wihout authorization is not a valid argument.

He says in the article that he's not going to play the blame game, but that's exactly what he's doing.

Hey Nagin, next time don't wait until less than 24 hours before a Hurricane hits to call for an evacuation, and be sure to utilize the emergency evacuation plan, the one that calls for utilizing the school buses to evacuate those who can't leave, instead of an "every man for themselves" policy.

New Orleans evac policy: Every Man for Themself

NEW ORLEANS FLASHBACK: OFFICALS WARNED RESIDENTS 'YOU'LL BE ON YOUR OWN'
Mon Sep 05 2005 18:57:15 ET

Before residents had ever heard the words "Hurricane Katrina," the New Orleans TIMES-PICAYUNE ran a story warning residents: If you stay behind during a big storm, you'll be on your own!

Editors at TIMES-PICAYUNE on Monday called for every official at the Federal Emergency Management Agency to be fired. In an open letter to President Bush, the paper said: "Our people deserved rescuing. Many who could have been were not. That's to the government's shame."

But the TIMES-PICAYUNE published a story on July 24, 2005 stating: City, state and federal emergency officials are preparing to give a historically blunt message: "In the event of a major hurricane, you're on your own."

Staff writer Bruce Nolan reported some 7 weeks before Katrina: "In scripted appearances being recorded now, officials such as Mayor Ray Nagin, local Red Cross Executive Director Kay Wilkins and City Council President Oliver Thomas drive home the word that the city does not have the resources to move out of harm's way an estimated 134,000 people without transportation."

"In the video, made by the anti-poverty agency Total Community Action, they urge those people to make arrangements now by finding their own ways to leave the city in the event of an evacuation.

"You're responsible for your safety, and you should be responsible for the person next to you," Wilkins said in an interview. "If you have some room to get that person out of town, the Red Cross will have a space for that person outside the area. We can help you."

Again, I'm not placing all the blame on the Local and State Governments, but it seems they have the most to answer for, yet almost nobody is asking the questions.

BTW, there's this:

'THE BIG BOO' CROWD HISSES KANYE WEST
Fri Sep 09 2005 10:30:28 ET

The chart topping hip hop rapper star who used a network hurricane fundraiser to charge "George Bush doesn't care about black people" was loudly and lustily booed during last night's NFL kickoff show.

The appearance of Kanye West, who was beamed into the Boston stadium via remote from Los Angeles, received a strongly negative response from the crowd.

"The boos were thunderous and lasted for much of his number," reports the BOSTON GLOBE.

Developing...

I can't wait for him to say that all New England Patriot fans hate black people.

Do you see how this kind of rhetoric back fires? Sure there's prejudice out there against black people, but some dumb ass rapper bytching about it isin't gong to help the cause.

By the way. George Bush does not hate black people....
Wise up, and you'll be taken more seriously.

Honestly, I didn’t read half of the first page before i stopped reading, so i don’t know if what I am about to say has been said or not yet. I saw that clip a while ago on a different site and just like a lot of you people were posting that it was Kanye who was the idiot, for the most part the other site agrees.

First of all, everyone else is reading off a cue card. Kanye was speaking from his heart and the fact that it’s all jittery and not in perfect English cant be held against him, this is all coming straight from him at the time. Most people involved in the upper media wouldn’t even imagine speaking their opinions like West did. He had a lot to lose as well and that means he had even more balls for saying what he felt.

The fact that he had the balls to say that, while everyone else is reading cue cards gives him points in my book. Also, Louisiana has a **** broke economy, even before Katrina. The ghettos in Louisiana are well known for being among the worst (dirt roads, old ass houses, and all). Just for numbers 150,000 people in Louisiana live below the poverty line; and a third of which are elderly.

Also, you have to take into account that black people were probably the most affected by Katrina in Louisiana as it struck obviously whites are there too. However look at the stadium shots of people that were there and you will see almost no white people.

Bush indeed doesn’t give a flying (or I guess drowning) fvck about the poor. What really caught my eye though, was the fact that they might be rebuilding New Orleans. Which will take so much money, when half of that money could have been used to prevent this from going on in the first place, and the other half could have been given straight to the people who are poorer than sh!t right now/ before Katrina.

But what really fvcking hurts me is to see Bush playing a fvcking game with this sh!t. I read online that he refused an offer by Hugo Chavez (president of Venezuela). Included in the offer were “10 water purification plants, 18 power generation plants and 20 tons of bottled water” all of which would have been helpful (seeing as the water floating through Katrina is toxic and currently supposed to be TEN TIMES WORST THAN LEGAL DRINKING WATER!). However, because of a ****ing political game between Chavez and Bush, Bush DENIED THE ****ING OFFER!

Sigh what a ****ing president; in the words of Rev. Jesse Jackson (who worked out the deal with Chavez) "This may be Mr. Bush's worst hour of leadership".

What Kanye said though, is really bringing up an underlying problem that still exists in the US (predominantly in the south), which is racism on both sides of the flesh rainbow. Whats great though, are all the ignorant people who believe that racism is dead, HAH!

1. Perhaps you should donate all of your money and your parent’s money to the poor, since you seem to have a socialist mentality. Whatever happened to self accountability? Alot of poor people create problems for themselves by their own self inflicted decisions; ex. Having kids when you can't afford to pay for them and dropping out of high school! Why should the people who go out and bust their a$$e$ have to pay for the poor people who make bad decisions? I'm sick of lowlifes milking the system and then complaining!

2. Kanye ran his mouth, because he knows he can get away with it. There are no reprocutions when a black celebrity makes racist remarks. I'll bet you guys anything; he'll have the top selling album next week too!

3. Why aren’t Kanye and the rest of the idiots in Hollywood opening up their homes to the victims of Katrina? They own property, have access to large sums of money, and could have easily provided planes, buses, and transportation to all of the families in need (PRIOR TO THE HURRICANE HITTING). Why wasn't Jesse Jackson's non tax paying A$$ orchestrating a plan prior to the hurricane hitting land? Since he is so fast to blame the racist USA, he should have donated his money along with the spoiled cronies of Hollywood's money and helped these unfortunate people out!

4. Once again, the middle class is bailing everyone out!

...........I volunteered at our local city fundraiser for Hurricane victims, so i got a first hand look of who was doing the donating!

Let me say this, in the little speech Kanye gives he is representing very clearly the “poor, the black people, and the less well off” NOT JUST BLACKS

The link to the FULL version of what he says is here…http://movies.crooksandliars.com/Kayne-West-Bush-Black-People.wmv

I am not a socialist and I do believe in self-accountability, however it’s like saying if the hurricane hit you, you would be the only one responsible I disagree, the reason we are a united states is because we help each other out. I can’t sit here and defend every poor person. For most people it’s not easy to make good decisions living in the ghetto. I personally have seen the effect of public schools, as I am sure you probably have too. I have seen my fair share of people who should have lived great lives but got ****ed over by a school system that, frankly doesn’t care about them past the 8th grade. I myself was almost a victim before I found this site and switched my life around.

i doubt Kanye's album beats his first, its not very good.

In the Clip he says he will “donate all he can” (actually the link on the first page cuts that part out oddly enough that is not the entire clip ill try to find the entire one for u) ether he does or does not, I don’t care really. It shouldn’t be up to him to save ALL of these people, he was just speaking his mind. What repercussions should he get? its not all racist, its justifiable did they not say that they would shoot at people there? "George Bush doesn't care about black people." It is my opinion that he doesn’t, but you could substitute “black” for “gays”, “non Christians”, or the “poor” and im sure u would agree on even more. I will say that I probably am a lil biased as just thinking about what to say makes me hate Bush so much more.

Why didn’t bush organize a plan? So many people to blame so little point! It doesn’t ****ing matter the fact is that we were VERY unprepared when we all knew that New Orleans was already below sea level I mean wtf is up with ALL of these decision makers. WHY ARE WE SPENDING MORE MONEY ON PROTECTING OURSELVES FROM TERRORISM IN OTHER CONTRIES THAN PROTECTING OURSELVES FROM TERRORISM WITH HOMELAN SECURITY?

4. Once again, the middle class is bailing everyone out!

I will agree with you, but the reason the middle class is the middle class is because they help everyone without helping themselves AKA: AFCs (ie. The emphassis is not on themselves but on others)

The bottom line is Kanye West has made racist remark after racist remark (just google him), so it's fair to assume his latest antics were racially charged! He turned a catastrophe into a black issue; further demonstrating his true ignorance.

BTW, I don't think he could read off of a teleprompter without fumbling words and sounding like the complete idiot he is! He named his cd "College Dropout." I want to know how he even got into college in the first place?

Kanye West also believes that the US created AIDS and crack cocaine and introduced it to the Black community in order to kill them off:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanye_West

Political views

On 2 July 2005 West appeared on the Philadelphia bill of Live 8, using the global platform to refer to "man-made diseases placed in African communities", expressing his belief that AIDS was created by the U.S. government to exterminate Africans in Africa (see also OPV AIDS hypothesis).

He made the parallel between the government using AIDS to exterminate Africans and using crack to destroy African-American communities and halt the civil rights movement. He also criticised politicians for "riding home in their Benzs and Bentleys while poor Africans starve".

This guy is not only a racist, but also a paraniod conspiricy nut.

see again i disagree, maybe its just a perspective thing how old are you and what state do you live in? just for reference
I live in Washington and am 18 white i was brought up poor but am now in the middle class both of my parents are in the military and thus tried to force me into it too.

Kanye West, it almost seems like we are talking about someone completely different. Kanye West is not as gangster as someone like 50 cent is. In the latest, or last issue of time magizine they run an article about how he is a refreshing artist in the rap genre one of very few who has never hustled on the street and grew up in the middle class. have you ever heard his college dropout cd? or are u just judging a cd by its title? its what it seems like as your last post had little substance i dunno where on google you are talking about

Not really racism, moreso 'misinformation'.

A lot of the things that you hear people like Kayne West and other African-Americans say, I've heard, and I'm sure Backbreaker and plenty of other African-Americans have heard as well.

Growing up, I heard those 'things' about Caucasian people all my life.

'They' created AIDS
'They' created crack-cocaine
'They' did this, 'they' did that.

The difference between say Kayne West and I? I actually preferred to pick up a book and find out some things by myself rather than just believe what someone told me.

There are a lot of reasons for this, something I am not very fond of with respect to my fellow black people, is how we will piss and moan about something, yet use it for our benefit.

The 'man' created crack-cocaine, yet I watched my cousins make it in the kitchen when I was younger. If it was so bad... why in God's name were 'we' perpetuating it. This sort of mentality (victim's mentality) is not something that you only find in black people, but it is certainly very prevalent.

some interesting facts about cocaine since someone brought it up:

1) Cocaine was in original ingreatant to Coca Cola

2) Sigmond Frud was a coke head for a number of years

3) The only reason Cocaine is illegal is because white people were scared that african american would get high on coke and rape white women. I am not making that up, dead serious. When the passed the original list of banned substances, cocaine wasn't on it, and no one tried to put coke on it, until something happened, forgot exactly, and southern whties got afraid that if blacks got high on coke they would be "out of controL' otherwise it would be legal today, as it is a very potent anestasia

Coke was in fact f ounded by "the man"

A german scientest founded cocaine in the mid to late 1800's. I mean, not the goverment, but in fact a white person did in fact invent cocaine in the form that we know it as.

The coca leaf has been around for generations for indians and indians in souther america, well not indians, that's racist.. people that live in south american chew it like tabacco.

Seems that all the best drugs aref rom South America execpt Herion which is mostly from Afganstan
