it creates rivalries, makes people lose respect from other members, and most importantly doesn't serve a purpose.

Its for the better they get closed. There is 0 point in discussing polotics, so why do it?

The precedent is that no one thread can stay level-headed for long: all of them develop in to flame wars if given long enough (which is usually in the 70-80 seconds range).

Nowadays we just kill them at the root. They WILL erupt into flame wars, and instead of generating extra "work" for the moderators and hurting people's feelings by pruning irrelevant or otherwise needless posts, we close them before they become problematic.

And lets not forget that sosuave is an organization where the owner makes profits out of. What would happen if some members would leave because of other`s comments? Less hits.

By no mean am I saying the owner is wrong because having such a huge user database, I would do the same.

ur right I didnt even think of that mrbond, and yeah I suppose you'd get flame wars, but I think anyone who leaves sosuave cuz they got their feelings hurt would be some afc we dont want around anyway no? Anyway I guess I see reason.
