"You'll Never Feel READY to Walk Over"

Next Monday you'll feel more confident. After the gym you'll feel more confident. After one more drink you'll feel more confident. After you get a better haircut, a better jacket, a better job.

You've been "getting ready" for two years.

She's standing ten feet away right now. She'll be gone in four minutes. No amount of preparation will manufacture the courage that only comes from moving your feet.

Walk over. Stumble through the first sentence. Let it be clumsy. Let it be imperfect. You will feel more alive in those ten seconds than you have all month.

lol - I couldn't find a mutual friend of my ex-partner and myself's email address, so I thought "It'll be in her email account on hotmail".

In I go, retrieve email address and... there's an email from her tosser of a friend who neither of us got along with - after hearing some of the racist rubbish he came out with I broke down at one point and labelled him as a certain leader of a german socialist party...

anyway, I deviate.

I opened the email

In it she's outlined that she loves her previous ex because of my attitude towards putting her down all the time.

Yeah, sure. I mean, I held her down so much. I pushed her out with her friends, complimented her daily and encouraged her to go back to university so that she could improve herself.

I won't deny that we argued a lot - it was mainly because I didn't love her and I found her opinions so selfish I felt compelled to argue to the otherside even when I knew she wanted me to sympathise with her!

Gah, I'm well rid of her. The best part being is that she has 'undying love' for her ex - quite funny because I get on quite well with him and I've spoken to him about this issue - he really doesn't want her back :- ) and has recently told her so. I know she hasn't cheated because I can read her like a book and she prides herself on moral values.

Anyway, I intend to stab a few nails into the coffin - she still thinks she can get back together with me, but it ought to be interesting when I mention that I've met someone else and I'm fed up with listening to how badly everyone treats her.

[/rant over, thanks for reading!]

"I just moved here from Florida."

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?

She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."

She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.

I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.
