Let's put Judge Moore's politics aside for a moment and look at the allegations made against him.
He stands accused on "inappropriate sexual conduct" with four women back in the 1970's. Three of these women were in the 16-19 y.o. range. The age of consent in Alabama is 16. Judge Moore went of several dates with them. Things did not progress beyond kissing. Absolutely nothing illegal about any of this, but we are told that the contact was "inappropriate" because Moore was "much older" (he was in his early 30's at the time).
The fourth woman claims that she was 14 when Moore told her to remove her dress and touched her over her panties and bra. Moore has denied the allegation. There are serious reasons to doubt the woman's credibility. She's been divorced multiple times, declared bankruptcy several times and key elements go her story have now been contradicted by her own mother (the woman claims that she spoke to Moore on the telephone from her bedroom to arrange dates; her mom says that she did not even have a telephone in her bedroom). She also claims that she did not come forward earlier because she did not think anyone would believe her...but now, nearly 40 years later, on the eve of the election, all of a sudden it's not a concern??
What makes this whole situation even crazier is the fact that all sorts of male politicians, both Democrat and Republican, are calling on Moore to withdraw from the senate race immediately, regardless of whether the allegations are proven true. Do these people not realize that they could very well be next?? What kind of a society do we live in if all it takes is an unproven accusation about something that allegedly happened 40 years ago to completely destroy a man's life?
