I’ve obviously touched a nerve. As a former drug counselor all I can tell you is being an ****hole is part of the treatment. Recovery from this disease is very, very hard. Some of the same “druggies” I was an ***hole to 20 years ago still contact me today. These guys hated me with a passion. But now I’m welcome in their home.KarmaSutra said:

Yes, I am an old guy who feels young, and has had the benefit of several careers and would like to share what I have learned. But yes, I am certainly an ***hole, and the last time I was nice was 1974.

I am really impressed with the quality and depth of the posts on this thread. I have seen lots of internet forums, and there's very few times that people actually talk about s*** like this. And even then a lot of times you get the old cliches, fake positivity, and no real insights.

I've walked in your shoes brother and I know all too well that it can go either way. Either easier for you in the short term or life changing in the long term.
The choice is whether or not you want to live in stagnancy and complacency or choose the harder, but much more beneficial, path and go at it on your own with nothing tying you down.

I admire the courage to tell your story. I've lost everything I've owned twice. I wasnt in legal trouble, or addicted to anything though (except pvssy, in one case), but I have had to start over. I was heartbroken once, and on the verge of being suicidal, and almost went and did stupid shyt like you did. I dont know if you're an addict, or you just lost your mind after your divorce, cuz it happens sometimes, but life goes on.
It's surprising how quick you can build a new life after you hit your lows.
Some guy answered my ad looking for a singer once. He didnt work out as a singer, and he kind of freaked me out, cuz he just got out of prison after five years. He's a little short guy. He said he got jumped by three guys in LA, and from defending himself, ended up hurting one of them really bad, so of course, our fine legal system threw him in the slammer. Anyway, the guy was the hardest worker I've ever seen. he took minimum wage jobs, worked overtime, bought some silk screening stuff, and started a small company, met a girl, married her, saved up enough to buy a motorcycle, and put a down payment on a house, and had a baby girl. This was all in three years. I run into him now and again, and I can tell he's not on any drugs or anything. He's totally legit, and works his ass off. He was in a worse place than you. brother. I admire the shyt out of him for what he's accomplished from nothing, in so little time.
And you can bash religion, and Jesus all day long, but it helps a LOT of people get though hard times, even if it isnt real, so dont bash it. Belief in something in and of itself, can be a very positive influence on someones life. If people turn to Jesus, and make something out of there lives, when they had nothing, (and I've seen plenty of people do it) how can it possibly be a bad thing, even if you dont believe in it? Worse case scenario: they followed the words of someone who never existed, and it completely changed their life for the better. I dont give a fvck what you believe, if something helps you turn you life around, it is a good thing, and its retarded to think otherwise.

I'm going to be really frank at this point. I'm a regular who has never missed a payment on anything. I don't much, and when I got in trouble I decided I'd never drink again. What I did was in complete panic, and my character can prove it. I'm not saying any of this to persuade anyone into thinking of me differently or change your thoughts of me.
What I'm trying to say is that the past few days I've been thinking some very bad thoughts. I feel like I can't go on any longer.

Well, it has been an amasing turn around for me. I'm now in a high paying, high end position with a multi-billion dollar company. I also work on staff at the rehab center I went to. Along with that, I get free room and board. All I'm doing right now is stacking up money and paying off debt.
As far as women go, I became a very desperate creep, and ran off every woman I was envolved with. It was in direct correlation to all I was going through, but as soon as I started getting paid big money and was able to pay off the debt, my confidence grew, and now women are flocking to me again.
Now, as far as my charges go, I have no convictions yet, and everytime we go to court, my lawyer continues it to another date in order to come up with a resolution. Everytime it gets continued, the punished gets lighter and lighter. One day I believe it will all be dropped or reduced greatly, and I will be free to live fully again.
I just had to keep pushing through and keep trucking along. My life is better now and more fullfilling than before I ever got in trouble.

don't ever look at people around you and say 'oh he's got it lucky', just KNOW that some people have it worse off than you too. everyone gets dealt a certain hand, you just have to play it to the best of your abilities

So, here I am... DEBT FREE!!!! I did it. No forclosure, no bankruptcy, and no bad credit.
I still have charges pending, but everytime we go to court the charges become lesser and lesser. Eventually they'll give me a break.
I've been at my job for almost a year, and I've been moved into the lead on some pretty cool projects; however, they have become very stressful, but I can handle it.
Now for what this site is all about... Women! I have none. Not a single woman. Not a care in the world for one. Every time I get in trouble and end up with only my shirt on my back, it's because of a woman. The night I got in serious trouble, it was because of 2 women (best friends) I was hooking up with. I just don't need it right now, and that has changed my game a lot. The women seem to be coming to me now. Anyway, I digress...

Congrats on taking control of your life Rea. Nice to hear a story like yours years after the fact. Don't forget, this is just beginning. Keep pushing and working hard on your life, you have many many great things to accomplish. Dont forget where you came from, dont lose sight of where you're going...and dont take anything for granted!
