2 days ago i read similar reports from Netherlands and France and i believe Spain (over 50% of the ICU beds from Corona patients were people under the age of 50). They don't die but become "severely ill" which means permanent damage to your lungs in many cases.

Anyway, just be smart and don't panic.

This is interesting.

I've noticed a lot of "it only kills elderly and infirm" comments, here and elsewhere, as a rationalization for ignoring the suggestions to isolate.

We certainly like to sweep death under the rug or relegate it to those two groups. We're all going to die, sooner or later. Meanwhile I still think the lives of the elderly and infirm hold value. My great uncle is almost 100 and he'll go some day, but he could also live another 10 years, happily.

It's a miracle coronavirus doesn't kill children, or maybe we'd just lump them with the rest as weak and defenseless.

I wonder what the reaction would be if the elderly and infirm carried it without hassle and those of us 18-60 were fatality risks.

Just my thought for the day. Something to chew on. This situation has me ruminating a lot.

They've said all along it's more younger people that have been spreading it. Which makes sense, because these are the people out there working, and in the service industry, etc. Younger people also might feel immortal and flout the restrictions, as seen by all the young people crowding the beaches before they were shut down.

With that in mind, it's not surprising that a great deal of the people catching this would be under 55. So the 40% rate doesn't really mean much unless it's accompanied by what percentage of cases are under 55, and what percentage of people in that age group need to be hospitalized. Then we'd have a clearer picture of what is going on. I also wonder if people are being hospitalized to err on the safe side - if a doctor releases a pt. and he later dies, he might have a lawsuit on his hands.

I think a lot of people point that out, not to rationalize not isolating, but rather to try to quell panic. It does make it sound easy to dismiss. But I want to point out that, contrary to popular belief, old people are people too. If you don't die, y'all will end up being old people yourselves, and that will probably come around quicker than you might believe.

Men are natural preppers, born survivors etc but women want chaos. And then strangely seek protection from it

You'll never know for sure. The alternative is to lock yourself in your room for a year with a lot of porn and lotion. It's up to you.

I've found that at least in this area both women I have been seeing have really been freaked out by what's going on and the fear has almost consumed them it seems...had plans with one to spend the night tonight and she is terrified to go out. Her place isn't an option because her son is there so looks like I'll have some free time...she said she will see how she is feeling after work but I can already tell its not happening.

Nothing I can do...just let them come to me when they are ready. Chasing won't work.

People in New York are really freaked out. I guess unless you live here and see things first hand its hard to understand just how bad it is here. Almost everyone here knows of someone who has either been in ICU from it or has died.
