Is it just me, or is marriage counseling totally ridiculous?

That's the problem with today's society. If one thing goes wrong, everyone throws up their hands and QUITS.

We need more strength now, today, more than ever before in history.

You have the right drive but the wrong motivation. 2 People can split amicably and move forward in their lives with minimal to no damage. There is nothing wrong with calling it quits when 2 people feel indifferent to each other why fight nature ??

Why waste your life trying to work on coexisting with another human being ??? what is so important about learning to live with another person whom you really don't want to be around ?? Why can't people be mature and honest with each other and admit we had some good times but not its time to move on. what is so important about staying together ??

which is why i believe we are witnessing the begining of the end of the human race.

WHY ?!?!? FOR MILLIONS OF YEARS MEN HAVE RANDOMLY IMPREGNATED SEVERAL WOMEN AND MADE THE CHOICE TO SETTLE WITH ONE, SOME, OR NONE !! we've gotten this far I highly doubt the human race will ever go extinct any time soon..as a matter of fact we're overpopulated !!

we are doomed in the general sense.

and the reason is that no one is prepared to sacrifice for anytihng anymore. no one believes in anything anymore. we are a world where the individual means next to nothing

People ARE willing to sacrifice, but only for things that are important to them !! A marriage that is not working is simply A MARRIAGE THAT IS NOT WORKING...it is not important to try and save it (unless children are involved).

And guess what as individuals we really don't mean anything..unless we make a contribution to the greater of mankind..hopefully we have enough self respect to keep ourselves alive and happy but as individuals, until we contribute something beneficial to the world we ARE WORTHLESS.

at the same time, the individual is left to figure out and assign his own value.

is it any surprise we have a world with people who have no clue what to do and who simply adopt whatever role they can find that will help them survive.

NO ONE DETERMINES THEIR OWN VALUE...OUR VALUE IS BASED ON HOW MUCH WE ARE NEEDED. adopting any role you can find to help you survive IS NATURAL...morality is a societal construct.

Counselling doesn't work because couples wait to get professional help until after they've run their relationship into a ditch. It's like changing the oil because the sludge you were continuously running on made your engine overheat and you threw a rod.

This analogy is very poignant and appropriate!!

Counseling is part of the feminist agenda - and The Matrix agenda to embrace the weakness, the emotional state of the female,and thereby making the male, himself, weak!! For what purpose? Anyone?

I wasnt even really watching the show. It just came on and I caught the first few minutes of it and I couldn't help but thin to myself "WHY ON EARTH would these people even WANT to stay married?"

This counseling business.....It's like going to the nurses office at school after one of the kids just went postal and pumped a dozen rounds into your chest. She proceeds to put band aids on each of the bullet holes and says "There ya go! ALL better. You can go back to class now" and she sends you back to the same room where the crazed maniac is still shooting the place up.

Some people need to learn the hard way and yes i was one of them.

And Iq' I should have rephrased my first post to 'marriage avoidance counsellor', oh and i would not say get divorced, i would ask the man to stay behind and as soon has his wife was out of the door, i would sit him down and say:

'You poor poor bast*rd and now your fuc*ed, dont worry though, when you divorce her, there will be loads of young women lining up in bars across the land ready to take your manhood around there lips and help you to get 'over her', heres a cigar!

Watching this show on TLC where these couples go to this "Marriage Boot Camp" and I'm thinking to myself "What the FUKK are these people doing together"? What good can come of this?

True, around here. But here's the caveat guys in this forum engage the typical woman who have their own emotional based views which goes against many of the tenets of the forum. Also because of that premise, they believe that all women share that belief, including ones who have been professionally trained in the interactions between the sexes.

I've never been married, but I would imagine the good thing about marriage counseling, is that both people are willing to sit down and try and work out their issues. That says a lot. At least, they recognize that their marriage sucks and want to do something about it. ...

The thing that people don't realize is that counseling is most effective before the couple marries.

Hmm, maybe there should be (or maybe there is) a website where both parties could air their grievances (a la Festivus) and the impartial other members could judge who was at fault and suggest solutions. Maybe the sexes of the complainants could be disguised also to avoid gender bias.

Sure there are already plenty of relationship sites, but I don't know of any that specifically ask both parties to present their side of the problems in such a manner. Anyone know of such a thing?

Would it save a failing relationship? Maybe not. Would it be a better alternative than traditional counseling, and also make $$$ for whoever ran such a site well and became the go-to place for relationship dispute solutions? Quite possibly.

They need to make shows where the women are hot, scantily dressed and feminine and submissive, like in the 60's. That would be good role model material!
