Weddings are just glorified d*ck measuring contests now and it totally destroys any kind of romance or sincerity in the occasion. I honestly feel like almost everyone I know that's getting married at the moment is just trying to passive-aggressively surpass the Joneses.
I know a member of my family who is getting married at a huge ceremony hundreds of miles away from her home (with some flimsy pretense that it was near where she was born). It's going to be in a massive cathedral and she wants all her guests to travel up there, even the frail and elderly.
But merely having a wedding is not enough, there also have to be 3 different big sub-ceremonies, 3 different pre-wedding parties and a post-wedding party. And THEN the honeymoon. Wut.
It's costing a huge amount that she can't really afford, her choice of husband is kind of dubious and I find the whole thing perplexing. If you love someone just have a fairly nice wedding somewhere scenic, why does it always have to be "You're having two parties, so I will have THREE! HAHA F*CK YOU I'M BETTER!"
