Lets debate this. Father's Day is actually one of the few days where Men are praised, pampered and appreciated. But then again, I've been seeing a lot of these " AFC" commercials lately i.e. the father looking like a dumbass.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

i hate fathers day.. because it's my birthday. It's like when your birthday is the day before Christmas,... you never really get to celebrate it. I always end up doing something for my bad.. not that there is anything wrong with it, but I hardly ever get the day to myself.

Father's day is always the 3rd Sunday in June, so it can't always be on your birthday...backbreaker said:

Is Father's Day DJ-ish? It would be, if not for all the AFC suckers who got roped into marriage by the woman, or got married and had kids to conform to perceived societal norms.

oh come on...
fathers day is suppose to be a tribute, an honor to all the fathers who worked hard all year to be there, to be providers.
its for the wife and the kids to show their love, and eventually the grandkids come along and play a part in it.
its a day when a father isn't suppose to have to do any chores, he is suppose to have his family waiting on him and showing their appreciation.
its one day of the year that you're suppose to get whatever you want for supper without someone in the family yelling "BUT I don't like that" .
a father is not less of a man if he celebrates it, he's the same guy with his favorite dinner watching his favorite tv show uninterrupted and some presents to boot.

I can't say if it's DJ or not (whatever that means for a guy who is a father), but I always see a marked difference in attitude between mother's day and father's day now that I've been one for 9 years now. I was listening to a local talk radio show on Friday that was opening lines for callers to express their gratitude (such as it was) for their fathers - as they'd done the previously in May for mother's day and damn near every caller had the same "fukk you dad!" story about how sh!tty their lives were because of their father's influence or his lack thereof. One girl had called in to bleat out her story about how her dad had molested her once 30 years ago and for the last 10 years she'd sent him a father's day card with a big 'FU' on it to tell him she'd never forgive him. Another guy called in to say how horrible his dad was for leaving his mom and how he sends her a father's day card because he thinks she fulfilled a masculine role for him that he owes some gratitude for.
Father's Day is a slap in the face for me now - a big "fukk you" Mr. Man - a reminder that masculinity is devalued and debased, and we ought to just take it like a man and get over it. Personally, when I hear cry stories like this, the more I hear how crappy fathers perceptions are today only makes me want to be that much better a father to my daughter, and I can't wait until I've got a grandson to help raise as well.

my dad and i don't even bother calling each other. he knows I love him and i know the same. I don't need a day to signify that.
