Something interesting happened in speech class today. We are currently in the beginning stages of public speaking and are only giving 'introductory speeches' about ourselves (events in our lives, phobias we have, etc.).

Well, today this guy got up and gave his speech about the different stages of nervousness that guys experience when talking to girls, ie cracking, wavering voice, sweating, blushing, etc. Now, this class is primarily female. Counting me, there are two other guys in there. And when he started giving this speech a lot of the girls started oohhing and ahhing and such.

My question is: is this a viable tactic to get a girl's attention? When he first started talking I was thinking 'what an AFC.' But, some of the girls seemed to take it quite well. Is making a woman feel sorry for you effective? I can't imagine that it would be.

This guy looks a like a normal individual. He doesn't necessarily act needy or anything like that (from what I can tell). Thanks for any thoughts you guys might have.

well the guy who gave that speach is a douche...in my opinons... donno what the girls would think.. i mean he explained why shiz happens - i think he made it harder for you to scheme on the girls in THAT class...

I think this could be concidered in the same category as being called cute. When a woman feels sorry for you, she wants to cuddle you and take care of you. Not fvck your brains out.. I would never go for sympathy by choice.

Or, maybe he was able to accomplish something you and the other two guys couldn't do, get the GIRLS ATTENTION. Now, he's probably got a few of the girls starting conversations with him because of his topic. Now they are all 'interested' in what he has to say. He found a way to break the ice with all of them. Pretty smooth in MY opinion.

He still has to do it consistently, and have the balls to say Hi every now and then.

Very interesting to study this effect. The guy describes the nervous habits of the average guy making an approach and these women coo as if they're having a new born baby described to them.

All this emphasizes is the true impression these nervous conditions leave a woman with. When your voice cracks, wavers, you sweat or blush she sees you as a new born child.

You're generalizng the use of the word 'cute'. That may be true if you do something that's "cute" or show some kind of vulnerability. But if a girl is checking you out and thinks you're cute or that you have a cute haircut or you meet up with her and she says something like "hey, you look cute today", that's just her expressing that she finds you attractive. You could even say it's a way for her to tell you she thinks you're "hot" without coming on too strong.

Despite what some "DJs" here try to convince themselves and others of, the world is not in strict adherence to the rules of the sosauve.com bible, let alone one's own black-and-white interpretation of it.

Without a doubt, but now his job is allot easier. Whether or not he takes advantage of this situation is anybodys guess, but my man accomplished allot with his little presentation. I just hope he's smart enough to realize it.

Yes, I guess what I'm trying to say is that the only real difference between success and failure is action versus inaction.

I took the same speech class you did, last semester. Great times - though making speeches actually takes a lot more work than I'd originally thought. It sounds like the guy did a good job of gathering the audiences attention, which definitely helped his grade - though not his chances at scoring (if that was ever his intention, which I doubt seriously). More likely than not he chose it because he felt it would be a funny but viable topic to present a speech on. I don't believe it impacted your chances at picking up on any of the girls at all, because they aren't going to associate that speech with him.

Best bet for that class will be to be the relaxed, confident speaker. I'd carefully review all of the things you're going to go over with in front of the class... you don't want to bring up controversial topics such as "Why women shouldn't have the right to have an abortion". Stay away from topics that will alienate yourself from the others - while some may argue that it's good to have a strong opinion on something, there is a time and a place for everything. A more appropriate topic may be "Why you should use birth control", or something along that vein. Have fun in the class, it's an easy A.

Really? Did you go to UA? Thats cool. Yeah, he might have done it to just be funny and engaging. I did think he did ok though. I'll see what happens in the next few days, as to whether he gets more attention or not.

do the opposite speech

what women unconsciously do when they are talking to a guy they're interested in...

list and demonstrate all the IOI's....

then throw in some stuff that the cute ones are actually doing as you're talking - kind of like a quasi-SS, since they are doing the behavior you say indicates interest, they'll feel like, damn why am i interested in him...

could work, or not, might be fun...

I think this is a brillant move if you do it right. Especially the part about doing what the girls are actually doing at that moment. For example, if you can get a chuckle out of some of the cuter ones try and throw something in about nervous laughter when they feel attraction.

But if this backfires on you, it will backfire HARD, IMO. so be very careful and tactful.

Nah, but for some weird reason they seem to teach the same classes at different universities. :p

I already did my speech, btw. It was on my experiences at Army basic training two years ago.
