Imagine
Imagine a life without being able to see, imagine a life where you are blind. You cannot see, yet you can still hear.
Imagine all the brilliant pieces of music you could listen to. The classical masterpieces of age old composers, the driving riffs of heavy metal, an infectious party beat, the sweet sound of Brittany spear’s voice. You could listen to music that makes you jump for joy, that brings you to tears, that brings forth images of things you can no longer see.
Imagine all the magical conversations you can have with people and the things you could learn. You can really get to know people deeply, hear the dreams of a child, listen to an old person tell stories about things you can only begin to picture.
Imagine listening to the calming sounds of nature. A bird chirping, the ocean crashing gently on the shore, the wind rushing through leaves. The world at peace.
Imagine a life without being able to hear, imagine you are deaf. You cannot hear, yet you can still see.
Imagine all the wondrous sights you could see. You can gaze upon the finest art known to mankind, and even create your own. You could see spectacular sights that nature has created. A magical waterfall surrounded by luscious green plants, a wild lion on the hunt, two birds courting, a sunset.
Imagine all the knowledge you can obtain from books. Classic pieces of literature can be read, enjoyed and appreciated. You could write your own stories, share your own tales. You can still use the internet, reading about exciting discoveries, creating your own website, calling someone a n00b on a Halo forum.
Imagine still being able to know people, through sign language and lip reading. You can chat via instant messengers; share your dreams and fears. Tell them how you climbed a mountain and saw amazing sights that few others will ever witness.
Imagine not being able to walk, you can’t walk or run or jump. Yet you can still see, hear, feel, taste, smell... You can still live.
Now imagine being dead. You can’t feel anything, can’t know anything, can’t do anything. You can’t tell you mother, father, brother, sister, friends, family that you love them. Anything you wish you had done is now unfinished forever. It may be the end, maybe the beginning, but your time here is done.
Look at all the amazing things these people can do. Most of us complain that we are not handsome like the movie stars, aren’t as cool as the football captain, don’t have the job we want. Yet there are people far worse of that us – the hungry, poor, cold, homeless, desperate, war torn. Some people would give anything to have things we take for granted. Most of us have eyes but we do not see, ears but we do not hear, feelings that we numb via computers and technology. Is this how you want to live?
We can do anything the people above can, and more. The only thing that holds us back is ourselves. It’s far too easy to complain about what we don’t have rather than appreciate what we do. Don’t you see? We can all accomplish amazing feats even if we aren’t as good-looking, smart, and talented as someone else. These people are probably too busy worrying about what they don’t have to enjoy it anyway. Are they any better than us? No. You can be happier and more successful, you can live.. If it all gone tommorow, would you be reading this?
Are you alive or just breathing?
Because...
The biggest sin in life is not living.
