This idea has been lingering in my head for quite sometime. I'm a writer, I love doing chores and manual labor to stay busy, hopefully I can get a piece of land that is not too far off from the city where I get some resources if I have to. Is this a good idea? Anyone here has experience with this? Where's a good place to start with this? Is gardening a good hobby to start with this?

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

is it just a hobby or do you need to earn income ? do you have large or small capital to get started ? what do you think your average day will be like if you do that ? you have spent time in Philippines before, is that the location your thinking ? if yes are you able to own the land (same as @sevbucmash asked). planting a few papaya is very different than managing a sugarcane plantation.
