TO BE A MAN
Everyone an expert
On what it means to be a man
Each with methods to use one
Any way they can
Societal rules that mold men a certain way
Breed contempt and shame
To the few who dare to stray
“What happened to chivalry?”
“Where have all the good men gone?”
At the same time “I don’t need a man”
They put that in a song.
Independent and strong,
Tell her “you don’t have to try”
Tell you to man up, grow up
And be the first to die.
Equal pay for equal work,
But save the women and kids first
You’ll be the last one off the ship
When its about to burst.
Relationships are tricky now
Accept her past and don’t ask questions
And nevermind those recent photos
Of another man’s erection.
Got 22 a day bowing out of life for good
Their curtain call too early
Saw more than any man should.
Divorce is now a business
They claim it’s eight in ten
Women on the way out
Taking everything they can.
A father sits at home
Longs for love and comfort
His children taken from his arms
Nothing left but southern comfort.
The corporate world ripe
With betas polished to perfection
A potential life of servitude
Calls for swift insurrection
So man it’s time to rise up
And face your inner demons
Not talking fake religions
Just passion, drive and reason.
