Why "Whatever You Want" Keeps You Single

She says the movie looks dumb; you suddenly agree. She tests you with a little attitude; you apologize for nothing.

You think you're being easy to get along with. She reads something else entirely: a man with no edges. Nothing to hold on to. No friction, no tension, no reason to wonder what he really thinks.

The "22 Rules" taught me to push back — playfully, calmly, without needing her approval. Strange things happened after that.

Oh, my friends are so pissed off… All the time… and I never understood why.

Was it their home life? Was it their relationships? Was it school?

We can all waste our lives away… smoking pot, drinking beer, escaping from reality as much as we can… For those of you who think “Oh, I don’t need to escape reality” – do you masturbate? If you do, you’re escaping reality. Go a few weeks without jerking off, and tell me how easy it is to relax.

There is a reason, why all these kids, your old friends, your loser friends, the unhappy kids… are so pissed off. There seems to be nothing to be unhappy about; nothing realistically, anyway.

There is an emotion I’ve never had to experience. Certainly it has come about before, but I have never delved into it like I have a happiness or depression. That emotion is an overwhelming feeling of powerlessness.

When we are powerless we are convincing ourselves that we are powerless. You can believe that you have control over a situation, that you can turn things around… Or you can wallow in the hole you dug for yourself, convinced that there is nothing to do.

I am nearly certain that all suicides are based on the same feeling. People kill themselves, not because they have no friends… Or that they are perpetually ridiculed. They kill themselves because they believe they are powerless to change it.

When your life becomes the consequences of your own actions, you want to die. More so, you want to be alone for all eternity.

I have a friend, Dave. One night, he was driving his car down an icy road with his best friend Tom. I know the road, and it is a dangerous one. Dave was driving at 80 miles per hour.

It was dark, it was icy, and he was driving at 80 miles per hour.

Tom is no longer with us.

This is not uncommon. This is not a new situation. My friend Dave killed his best friend over a year ago.

Dave broke down in tears in the courtroom.

…and I guarantee that he wished he was dead.

Survivor’s guilt? Certainly.
A feeling of powerlessness? Most definitely… He was facing the consequences of his own actions, and he was now powerless to change them.

We make decisions in our lives that change our course constantly. You can stay home and jerk off, or you can go to the school dance. Sometimes, it is not about whether you’ll have the better time: It’s about your future.

As my history teacher would tell you: we are the sum of our past. Every decision will come back to haunt you.

Go to that dance and have a terrible time. You’ll never forget it.
Stay home and masturbate. You’ll never forget it.

You are in power to make that decision. After you’ve made it, you are powerless to change it. We are all apprehensive. None of us are these DJs that everyone claims to know about.

James Bond is not a real human being. Don’t forget that.

We can look for perfection or we can look for excellence. We are driving without windshields. We cannot see past our decisions.

Robert Frost:

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Frost agrees. I’m sure you’ve all read or heard the poem. To be perfectly honest I am not very fond of it.

We are pissed off and angst-ridden because we are convinced that there is nothing we can do. That we are without power.
We are depressed and suicidal when we believe we are without a future. We are convinced that there is no light at the end of the tunnel. That we are powerless to change our course; that we are powerless to avoid the inevitable hell we think we have been sentenced to.

We’re all fighting battles that we want to win but can’t. The battle is for perfection. Your sights might not be that high yet, and that’s ok. Some will theorize that shooting for perfection and finding excellence is good. I disagree.

We’re all here because we want to be better than our peers. Sometimes, you get so arrogant that you start judging yourself upon scales higher than your own. I digress (as per usual).

There is something we are weak at in our lives. We can avoid it and envelope ourselves in the delusion fantasy of excellence.

We can jump off our pedestal and start a thousand miles behind our peers. The strength, the nobility, it comes in the pain you’ll soon become accustomed towards.

Every night we either give birth to a child or kill ourselves once more. There is no in-between. We die or we spawn.

I am not speaking of childbirth or suicide.

We are trying to escape reality... To hide the relative fact that we are insignificant, that we are not Don Juans, that we are imperfect creatures, that there is so much more room to improve.

Being a DJ is embracing reality. Reality, like I’ve said before, is total ****. Change that.

"She Made Her Decision Before You Finished Your Sentence"

Three seconds. That's how long it took. Your shoes. Your posture. The way you held your drink. Whether you looked at the floor or looked at her.

She already filed you away. Interesting. Boring. Safe. Bold. Before you even opened your mouth.

Everything you say after that is just her confirming what she already decided.

So stop rehearsing lines. Fix the first three seconds. Stand tall. Look up. Smile like you mean it. Walk like you belong wherever you're standing.

The words come later. The impression comes first.

Man, winter really depress's me. Freakin' teenage hormones. Heh.

However, I really liked this post. I went to a school dance last night that was TERRIBLE.. however.. now that I think about it, it's better then not going at all.

True to that, I've always agreed not to "escape" reality. Everyone's reality is different though. Right now I'm not quite sure what I want to do with mine. I'll use today and tommorow to think about it.

Professor: The reason why I refuse to take existentialism as just another French fasion, or historical curiosity, is that I think it has something very important to offer us for the new century. I'm afraid we're losing the real virtues of living life passionately, in the sense of taking responsibility for who you are, the ability to make something of yourself and feeling good about life. Existentialism is often discussed as if it's a philosophy of dispair, but I think the truth is just the opposite. Sartre [an existentialist philosopher] once interviewed said he never really felt a day of dispair in his life. The one thing that comes out from reading these guys is not a sense of anguish about life, so much as a real kind of exuberance, of feeling on top of it. It's like, your life is yours to create.

Professor: I've read the post-modernists with some interest, even admiration. But, when I read them I always have this awful, nagging feeling like something absolutely essential is being left out. The more that you talk about a person as a social construction, or as a confluence of forces, or as fragmented or marginalized, what you do is you open up a whole new world of excuses. When Sartre talks about responsibility, he's not talking about something abstract. He's not talking about the kind of self or soul that theologians would argue about. It's something very concrete; It's you and me talking, making decisions, doing things and taking the consequences.

It might be true that there are 6 billion people in the world and counting. Nevertheless, what you do makes a difference. It makes a difference first of all in material terms; It makes a difference to other people; And, it sets an example. In short, I think the message here is that we should never simply write ourselves off and see ourselves as a victim of various forces. It's always our decision who we are.

Superb post Smooth. The future is what you made of it. The present is how you act. The past is history.

Escaping reality is in our nature. Ever watch a movie? Ever read a book? Ever surf the net? Ever play a game?

"You'll Never Feel READY to Walk Over"

Next Monday you'll feel more confident. After the gym you'll feel more confident. After one more drink you'll feel more confident. After you get a better haircut, a better jacket, a better job.

You've been "getting ready" for two years.

She's standing ten feet away right now. She'll be gone in four minutes. No amount of preparation will manufacture the courage that only comes from moving your feet.

Walk over. Stumble through the first sentence. Let it be clumsy. Let it be imperfect. You will feel more alive in those ten seconds than you have all month.

Yea that's also true, but, its different cause your still conciously aware of your surroundings where as when you orgasm when masturbating for a split second it's like you loose conciousness of everything and then come back again.

EDIT: Posted before I was done, my bad.

Anyways, continuing on, my point is that masturbating is relaxing yourself and not dealing with the troubles of the world, like smoking pot and drinking beer because your in a different state of conciousness. However, when reading a book or playing a game your still concious of things around you, as well as the fact that your in a normal state of mind.

But really, what difference does it make? We watch movies and read books because we want to be a part of something more interesting than our own boring lives. Same thing with drugs/alcohol, the fact that your body is chemically altered is irrelevant because those effects are only temporary. The same reality still surrounds you; you simply interpret things in a different way.

So what are u suggesting? That we never smoke pot (i'd agree with drug free lives) or drink (to some extent) or read a book or wathc a movie or MAstrubate?!!?

You dont want to feel guilty abotu mastrubating, you will be worse off thinking u are "escpaing reality" rather than thinking u are just enjoying yourself.

We are all living our lives, but i cant become an NBA star ( too bad cause i love the game) that is why i play NBA street, are u telling me to never play that game becuase i cant be it? (if u suggest going to [play BBbal in real life i'll agree, but im talking as an addition or inspiration).

Are u telling me to never dream?!?! fukk that is what i will tell you.

with six billion mindless robots there is a pretty good chance non of us are any different. yesterday i went to a dog park to smoke weed in my car, i was watching the dogs run, and play, they looked so happy. and if you go to any dog park or group of dogs they do the excact same thing, sniff each others butts, piss on trees, run around chasing each other like little kids. after millions of years of evolution, these are the behaviors they are born with. humans are the same, just a little more complex, we have more than just instinct, we have learned behaviors like talking. anyway my point is we are much more alike than we'd like to admit. just a coulpe million years ago we were just a small tribe, and thats just a blink of an eye compared to befor that. i noticed this when i was in seventh grade and switched schools, people have the same core personalities with minor differences. just like, to us, the strips on tigers all look the same, to the tiger, they are vastly different. to an outside(nonhuman) observer, we humans are incomprehensibly simalar. so what should we do? well i will enjoy it the best i can, whether that means smoking weed, drinking, masturbating, fukking, or whatever. because 'reality' is how you perceive it.
