There is nothing wrong with majoring in Psychology. If you have a true passion for psychology, understand what a psychologist does and being able to accept the lifestyle of a psychologist, then it is really admirable to major in the field to be a good psychologist.

I see this crap all the time here in my country. A kid feels that biology is his favourite subject and decides to major in life sciences. What he doesn't realize is the lifestyle of a scientist and what it takes to be an accomplished scientist. Soon the kid is stuck in a lab overnight working for a PhD, having no social life and getting paid only a small stipend till he's in his mid 30s. Most of them usually just give up after getting their bachelors and become insurance and real estate agents which does not really need a degree in the first place.

Moral of the story: know what you want to do before getting into it!

The problem i have is that everyone is saying i majored in psychology for some asinine reason, such as it was the easiest major or because i thought it would pay me a lot of money. I didnt post about the next 10 years of my life and what i plan to do. Yea, i want a job in sales, so the f*ck what. I need to pay my bills and its the best thing out there to do so. For most of the jobs that I applied for, they look for a 4 year degree. I know majoring in psychology wasnt going to be lucrative, and if thats why i did it then im a dumbass, which it isn't. I actually want to go to grad school and get by phd in clinical psychology with a concentration in neuropsych and do neuropsychological test. I didnt major in it to work in sales. I did it because initially i wanted to be a clinical psychologist and counsel people. As i took different classes my desires changed. I dont really want to work in sales, but i thing its the best paying job i can get at the time being. Yes, i know i would need a PhD to practice, or i can get a PsyD as well. Like i said, ive done plenty of research. I said no more school because im done and dont plan on going back for a while, i guess i got a little too excited. Neuropsychologists give neuropsychological assesments to patients. Psychologists dont soley counsel. Even clinical psychologists do research about psychological disorders. I meant i have many options in regards to the field i want to go into. People are involved in everything, learning, memory, decision making, judgement and how people behave in certain settings is a part of everyday life. Because i have learned about all of them i feel psychology is a part of every job. I think these things because from what i have read. I didnt make this up and im not being headstrong because its my opinion. And i DONT think i have a strong advantage against other people. I think i can still get a job, and i use my major everyday. Persuasion, negotiation, attitudes, habits are a part of many different businesses. I believe with the understanding of such and work experience, i will be successful. Trust me, i know what im talking about even though you guys dont think i do. I have talked to enough people and researched enough stuff online to know. But for someone to say my life is f*cked is a stretch of the imagination. When i made this post i didnt say anything about anything, i was attacked by people because what i decided to major in. I know im not gonna get a job making a bunch of money, thats why i want to go into sales FOR NOW. So i can make enough to pay bills. I know my degree isnt the best and ive known it for a long time. Where are you applying to?? Jobs around here are few and far between. Tight. My degree was in Finance, but when I got out I got a job as a systems analyst. I quit that job because they didn't promote me for all of my hard work (I was too slow at solving computer problems) telling them that I'm not a programer and "siranara." When I moved out here, I had nothing, so I took a hard labor job, and, made it work for me. I'm happy.

The MAIN thing is, that, you got that piece of paper at a good school. A degree DOES matter to an employer, no matter where you work. It got me through doors I never would have gotten through. It shows an ability to stick with something and a sophistication of sorts.

Anyhow, beside all this flaming I feel there's some truth after all and that's why I'm gonna post in here.

I'm finishing my bachelor "mechanical design" in belgium (quite/fully equal to american degrees). Next year I'm getting my engeniering degree (master) in "Electromechanics". There is a MAJOR lack of people in the thing I'm studying.

I'm already enrolled for 2 coarses, which would make my next year much easier. It does give me two exams now, but considering I only have to defend my "final paper" made during my 3 months internship, I thought it was the right move.

Anyhow, during this engeniering master, you must pick an extra option... I have so much doubt, at the moment I'm very intrested in company reformation (restructurizing companies to make more money by spending less), so I would take my extra option management.

The other options are:
-dredging -> Alot of cash, but no social life
-designing -> intresting and fun, but not what I wanna do for life
-electricity -> NO
-Mechanics -> I'm into engines, and the next step is research on turbines, doable considering my uncle is a pilot and has the coarses with information on turbines... Would love to do this, but I don't wanna grab to high to then crash and burn, also don't know if I wanna stay in that bussiness for life
(-management - don't really know what opertunaties this would actually bring... rather do a Master to master to economics)

I did my internship about hydraulics: "excavator crawler" machines.

Any thoughts on how my choises were etc? I have alot of doubt of what I wanna do later, but the choises have to be made..... Dredging is a very profitable bussiness but then I'm outta the country (I would love that, but its for a year minimum, so goodbye social life)...

I might also do this dredging, then do a internship with my dads company for a year, my dad is projectleader in his company which is mainly directing everything. His company is like dredgings, with the experiance I might really be able to get a good cheque afterwards! Then the plan is: save money, then start in real-estate!

Engineering seems hard a hell to me. I cant stand doing so much math for one problem and having only one possible solution. Do whatever is most appealing and doesnt cause your life to become unbalanced (as far as social life, making money, etc). At least you have some ideas and directions to go. Just take some more time and figure out which one would be best for you. And yes, the flaming is very silly.
