Drug & Alcohol abuse both tend to have consistent behavioral patterns that show up or "lack of showing up".

A few i've known from both my own use of alcohol and drugs as well as partners are:

- Lack of empathy or understanding for other peoples situations
- Flakyness
- Lying (such as telling you they will call you back and then not calling, telling you they'll be somewhere and not being there, etc)
- Fear (fear of being caught, found out, told what to do ie. authority)
- Inability to meet time commitments
- Random dissapearances sometimes days or weeks a time
- Denial
- Blaming others for all problems in life
- Frequent bathroom use or trips to the store or going to "such and such" a friends house during odd hours
- Problems with sleeping on a regular schedule
- Runny noses much too often
- Black / Red boogers from runny noses

These are just a few patters/signs that will usually repeat themselves over and over again.
