Went on a first date recently (from online), met up for a drink at a small place and it seemed to have gone pretty good but I found my issue was not enough contact. The table size didn't help.
When we met she went to shake my hand but I told her "stand up, im a hugger" and she laughed and had no problem with it. I made sure to sit down to her side instead of directly in front and managed to get a few minor kinos like high-fiving, but nothing escalating.
I eventually had to sit in the other chair across from her, as the seat I was sitting in had lots of people brushing by as the place was starting to get busy. Once I got on the other side of that table I didn't really have any idea of how to regain contact. Any reaching over the table would have been too obvious and wouldn't have the same effect, so what do you do in a situation like that?
