hey everyone,

To start off, Im 20 and 6' tall.

2 years ago, i weighed 138 pounds.. i didnt like the way i looked so i started bulking and taking in about 6K-7K calories daily. After gaining thirty pounds in about 6 months, one night i woke up in the middle of the night cause i coudlnt breathe, my heart was beating fast, i was sweating. I thought i was having a heart attack, but it turned out to be acid reflux. I was told to stop taking whey protein and not eating as much.

If i ate more than 3 meals a day i would get crazy heart burn and my throat would close up, and i ended up losing 20pounds. After few months of taking Prilosec i was back to being normal, and started bulking again and till last week i weighed 194 lbs.

But now its back, and again, i cant eat anything.
This time i have a new doctor she told me to reduce my protein intake significantly.

So my question is.. how do bodybuilders that have acid reflux gain weight?
Its really hard for me to gain any weight and on top of that i have acid reflux and its frustrating.

Anyone got any tips?

I would do your own research on this. Doctors seem to get an awful lot of s*** like this wrong. Not saying neccasarily in this case, just an observation. They just want to give you pills and not treat the roots of the problem. My Mum has this and I was surprised (shouldn't have been) when she said she had only been to her GP about it. They didn't bother sending her to a specialist or anything. Here are some pills and out the door. Warranted of course if there is nothing more that can be done, but I doubt it.

These are a bunch of people that say saturated fat is bad, and that eating eggs raises cholestrol. So yeh, do some reasearch and draw some conclusions of your own.

I had the same problem (no so severe). I found that after eliminating all grains from my diet the problem went within in a month.

Mostly wheat, but others like oats also. My house-mate also gets it, he takes massive medication for it while I have just eliminated it from my diet.

falcon I had a similar problem albeit not as bad.. earlier this year. My doc wanted me to see tons of professionals because I was getting pain from what I was eating as well as lots of stomach acid/reflux. I've also had this before as well.

I fixed the problem myself with some diet troubleshooting and you could likely too. Basically get a baseline for feeling ok for several days. Once thats established add one thing you were eating before, only ONE THING. If your ok after adding it for a few days/week then add another. Keep doing this until you react negatively. This'll tell you what your body can't handle anymore. Put on your lab coat and give that a try.

Also maybe it could also be your brand of whey your using.. not protien in general? *shrugs*

hmm ok.. well im almost out of this protein, ill start a new one soon.

Lets see if i notice any change.

I did however start taking Digestive Enzymes and they have helped a LOT.

So if anyone is having the same problems, give digestive enzymes a shot.

I take 2 pills after every meal.

Pro-biotics and enzymes can help.

Also try to eliminate dairy and wheat to see what happens, but only one at a time, like JohnnyIrish suggested.

Dr. B Jacobson, study author, from Boston University School of Medicine, USA, said that his study shows that any excess weight may have a negative effect on health, even small amounts which would not class the person as overweight. In other words, a person of normal weight who gains a bit of weight - and is still considered to be of normal weight - can become more prone to GERD.
