She asks it casually, mid-sip. And you feel the floor open up, because the honest answer is work, gym, and a couple shows you're half-watching.
Women rarely say this out loud, but a man with a life is attractive before he says a word. The guy who spent Saturday deep-sea fishing and came back with photos and a story — he walks in already interesting.

I joke with her and tease her... get her to laugh. Anytime a women starts with this type of convo, you are doing things right. Playful answers are all well and good, but it's wise, methinks, to covertly try to understand why she thinks that way. Her saying this could be just the usual female background noise or it could even be a legitimate complaint on her part if you're not socially calibrated.
Not that I disagree with the answers above at all, but I'm a believer in situational awareness. Many a man has been dumped seemingly (to him) out of the blue when the hints were actually screaming at him all along.
