I think I smile too much. If I'm in a good mood, talking to somebody I like I'm pretty much constantly grinning and laughing. I'm sure it makes me seem happy, relaxed and friendly about 90% of the time, the only downside is it can look nervous or submissive while flirting. I just really find it hard to hide a smile or stifle a laugh -- even if I'm by myself. Does anyone have any tips? Can't find anything decent on the web.

Think of something sad or something that makes you angry.

Eat those salty licorice dutch candies. They aren't great so they may help you to bring the smile down

Be aware. Knowing that you do it is this first step. After your consciously thinking about it make a mental effort to stop. However, you're probably just look too deep into it, as long as you're genuinely smiling because something warrants it, it probably doesn't matter all too much.

Personally I think it helps. That grim straight face isn't very attractive to ladies. Be charming, you probably smile all the time because you use charm a lot.

Just to clarify, I don't want to smile much less, I just want to control it better so I can deliver deadpan repartees.

I like to do that blank-with-lips-slightly-parted expression (not with the Jayden Smith eyebrows though).

Right behind you
Whenever that happens to me, I always just think of the time when my sister threw a phone at the back of my head when I was 9 years old (not a cellphone, I'm talking about those big bulky landlines) pretty much because I ignored her. My head was bleeding like crazy but I didn't go to the hospital. When my dad got home, he absolutely flipped **** on my sister, but also got mad at me and said "and you, this is your fault too" and then smacked me on my mouth causing the right side of my upper lip to swell.

That gets me cold to think about. It used to get me so furious before, but now the anger part of my brain is pretty much destroyed. I used to be so angry so often when I was younger that I think now the receptors in my brain responsible for feeling anger have shut down, similar to how drugs like heroin become less effective in making you feel euphoria, because they break down the reward pathway in the brain. Yeah, I was one angry kid once upon a time.....

Transmute your urge to smile and laugh. Take control of your facial muscles. The smiling will most likely go to your eyes and people will see you as having sparkling eyes.
