You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

what i learnt in management is that when 2 people are talking and the one that does most of the talking will always think that the conversation went well and it does work
so just let her talk bout her day and use c&f on whatever she says

My job is in telesales and the one thing we're always told is to try and aim for a 70/30 rule, ie the client does 70% of the talking and you do the other 30%, basically you use your 30% to steer the conversation, ie by asking her questions etc and let her do the rest. Obviously I'm not suggesting you interview the girl, one would hope if she isn't completely self obsessed that she'll want to hear a bit about yourself as well, but as a rule aim for around 70/30, women love to talk about themselves.

For example instead of saying:
Whats your favourite film?
Say:
I love that film superman, louis and superman were so hot together.
This forces her to talk about her own feelings instead of just saying "i like toy story"
