High School Sexting Case

I think this case shows how uptight a lot of people in the US are about sexuality:

A high school quarterback and his girlfriend are found in possession of explicit pictures of each other on their cell phones. This is a felony and if they hadn't plea bargained the charges down they both would have had to register as sex offenders. Imagine how that would mess their lives up for the rest of their lives. What a stupid law.

Even more ludicrous, the guy had the nude pictures of HIMSELF on the phone that he had made, and it is apparently a felony for him to have those, because they are pictures of a minor. Yet as a 16 year old, he is charged as an adult. Sometimes it's hard to understand western culture.

hahaha... yeah. Its frustrating to think about. Irrational on every level. But we persist in maintaining it.

These prosecutors are like cops. They just need to get a few "convictions" so it looks like they're doing their jobs. So they go for the easiest ones.

Getting folks to plea bargain is an easy way to get a conviction with little effort.

However, this is the part I'm wondering about:

It is not known how the pictures were discovered, but no search warrant appeared to have been issued for Copening's phone.

Somebody must have forwarded a pic to the wrong person.
