"The Coffee Shop Girl You Never Spoke To"

You've replayed it a hundred times. She stood three feet away, scrolling her phone. You had an opening. You composed the perfect line — after she was gone.

For all you know, she's married now. To some guy who said something. Anything.

Openers are cheap. Almost any sentence works when it's delivered within three seconds. The expensive part is the standing there, drafting and deleting, while the window quietly closes.

The "22 Rules" stripped out my hesitation. What to open with, how to keep it alive, and the one habit that costs guys more women than anything else: waiting for perfect.

I don't think anyone has posted about this before, but this has happened to me twice in the past month. I meet a HB, and it turns out I know her roommate and already have her home number (I know a lot of people).

It might sound stupid, but, what do you do in that situation? It would be ridiculous to ask for the number since I already have it. What do you recommend?

Should I just call and ask for the HB out of the blue? How do I make it clear that I want to date the HB?

Thank you in advance for your thoughts, SoSuave.

"She Made Her Decision Before You Finished Your Sentence"

Three seconds. That's how long it took. Your shoes. Your posture. The way you held your drink. Whether you looked at the floor or looked at her.

She already filed you away. Interesting. Boring. Safe. Bold. Before you even opened your mouth.

Everything you say after that is just her confirming what she already decided.

So stop rehearsing lines. Fix the first three seconds. Stand tall. Look up. Smile like you mean it. Walk like you belong wherever you're standing.

The words come later. The impression comes first.

If you see the HB somewhere, talk to her and ask her if she wants to go out sometime. Try to set up the date right there and avoid conflict with her roommate.

That seems to me solid advice, to set up the date immediately.

Pook and AD were against setting up dates on the spot, preferring to test the bitty by asking for her phone #, which makes dating intent clear anyway.

But I you're right. Any other ideas by any chance?

the setting up on the spot works..

otherwise instead of saying whats ur number, just say "i've got your number cause i'm friends with *roommate* you mind if i give u a call?"

otherwise, call to speak to the roommate, and hope she answers.. have a little fluff talk and say, hey i'm pretty busy rightn now and i need to speak to *roommate* but lets catch up for a coffee on *xxx*day

Yo, great advice all. Thank you!

Since I barely care about one of the HBs, I just emailed the friend and was like "well since I know both of you, when are you going to invite me over for dinner?" hehe, gotta entertain yourself in life.

"You'll Never Feel READY to Walk Over"

Next Monday you'll feel more confident. After the gym you'll feel more confident. After one more drink you'll feel more confident. After you get a better haircut, a better jacket, a better job.

You've been "getting ready" for two years.

She's standing ten feet away right now. She'll be gone in four minutes. No amount of preparation will manufacture the courage that only comes from moving your feet.

Walk over. Stumble through the first sentence. Let it be clumsy. Let it be imperfect. You will feel more alive in those ten seconds than you have all month.
