- Girl is standing on the sidewalk waiting for a cab, but her head is down typing away on her phone. You say something to her or ask her a question but she never looks up. Her eyes are literally glued to her phone.

- Girl at the bar with her head facing down chatting away on her phone. You ask her a question and she gives you a pathetic one word response, while still looking at her phone and doesn't even acknowledge you eye to eye.

I'm trying to find out how common this is for everyone else.

I've actually never had this happen to me, or at least not initially

I usually get them to look up at least once at the beginning.

Could it be that you're boring? Only approaching girls who are obviously busy? Ignoring obvious disinterest? Etc.

Both of those girls are saying, "I don't want to talk to anyone." Talk to the girls who want to talk to you and it will go a lot better.
