Or, you could try to negotiate the fine down yourself. My ex-wife got a $400 speeding ticket in Butts county south of Atlanta on 75. When we told them we did not have the money, they threatened her with probation, but then reduced the fine by half so that we could pay it. The atmosphere was similar to buying a used car. The guy finally said, "Could you pay your fine today, if it were just $200?"

actually i was doing 86, but because it was my first violation the cop cut me a break and took it down to 84, otherwise i'd be in jail right now. i'm just gonna pay the fine and be done with it, i cant afford a lawyer, and i'm not gonna make excuses for driving as fast as i was
What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.
You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

fwiw, I got a ticket in Florida in 2000 and bought a $99 attorney, who got my fine reduced by $100, which paid for his fee, and I also did not have to show up in court, had no points on my license, and did not have to go to traffic school.
