You've got the right idea about not bothering to close for the sake of bootcamp tallies alone. You're way beyond the level where one would have to do that.
As for the "difficult" approaches, there's no need to force anything. In fact, it's not good to. Just go with the flow of things. Usually if a bird is attracted enough to you, she'll give you the opportunity to meet her. If you get a good signal from a gal in a group, it's usually best to be friendly to the whole group, and get sort of "in" with them.
