I've noticed this sometimes. They will stare and smile, but it's a smirking type of smile. What are these girls thinking? I've seen this when I try on clothes for example. I'll see a girl walking behind me, stop, then stare and smile and smirk.

Or, it might be some girls walking towards me. The stare and smile I take as signs of attraction, but the smirking is kind of different. What's up with that? What are they thinking?

I'm not staring at them, I notice them staring at me first, and then smirking.

To rephrase my question: who has noticed this from girls, then acted on it? Please, no speculation from keyboard jockeys or inexperienced guys.

Many times. Just smile back and go talk to them.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.
