I talked to one of my high school friends on the phone last night. She put me on some real s***.

She told me, if a man is not getting laid, it's because he does not think he's worthy enough. If he does not think he's has tremendous confidence, the way he carries himself, how well he's able to turn a girl on sexually. If he scales himself out of 10 in each category, then he should not have a problem turning girls on.

If he does not believe he's a 10/10 in the looks department, if he does not believe he's a 10 sexually hot then he will have trouble with women.

Also, you have to the blessing to the women. She told me the man has to believe that his pen1s is a gift to women.

Hope this helps.

Kind of confusing. The way she frames her "advice", makes it seem like the guy should be aiming to please her, rather than her trying to please him. This is where guys get all fvcked up.

But confidence does get you laid, she has one point. But did she really say "tremendous"? The only people who have tremendous confidence are fools, and people that are about to fall on their face. You don't have to believe you're a 10 in the looks department, or anything else for that matter....that's absolutely ridiculous.

Hope you didn't take anything this woman said to heart.

Don't ever take a woman's advice when it comes to dating.

Outside of "confidence" (which really women are not sure what it really is or means), women have no clue what they actually find attractive in men, i.e., what in fact they respond too.

Pay no attention to the viper behind the curtain.

Carry on.

I'll be honest; I really don't KNOW for sure if confidence ACTUALLY works. I say this for a few reasons...

1. The only confidence I ever had/have is due to experience and SOME successes along the way.

2. When some women are interested and many aren't, how do you separate out the confidence piece from the looks piece? You can't.

3. Do you really know an ugly (and low status) confident guy that scores? Even if you THINK you know of a guy like that, how you REALLY know that he's ugly? Like Floyd says, men aren't good at judging men's attractiveness.

So, while I have serious doubts that confidence alone will work, it's very difficult to know for sure.

To the extent confidence does work, it would be horribly inefficient by itself. You'd have to play some serious numbers in the numbers game.

But then you could just as easily argue that you finally find a girl that was attracted to your look. See the problem?

Im in the complete opposite camp of Plate on this one. Im full on the "Prize Mentality"/ "God Complex" train. I really do believe guys have to be full on confident and just oozing with the stuff. No doubts should come creeping in, no "what ifs". Just "I am the prize, she wants me". And also "think and you shall become"...a great quote and ive never seriously heard a truer statement. I use it everywhere....

-Golfing: I think i will be on the PGA someday(Result: I shoot better than if im thinking how mediocre I am)
-Women: Im the fukin man(Result: Not afraid to talk to any girls or get rejected.)
-Literally any scenario....think your the sh1t and i PROMISE you, that you will find success. The mind works in amazing ways my friends.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

Depends on how much value the guy has, usually.

I say this for a few reasons...

1. The only confidence I ever had/have is due to experience and SOME successes along the way.

Success does breed success. That gives you confidence. If it's not natural, you'll have to fake it.

2. When some women are interested and many aren't, how do you separate out the confidence piece from the looks piece? You can't.

Looks is your hook. Confidence is your reel. No amount of confidence is gonna make you look like a Greek God.

3. Do you really know an ugly (and low status) confident guy that scores? Even if you THINK you know of a guy like that, how you REALLY know that he's ugly? Like Floyd says, men aren't good at judging men's attractiveness.

The sun shines on a dog's ass every now and again.

So, while I have serious doubts that confidence alone will work, it's very difficult to know for sure.

Confidence is just one factor. You usually will need more than just that.

To the extent confidence does work, it would be horribly inefficient by itself. You'd have to play some serious numbers in the numbers game.

The girl has to be attracted to you first.

But then you could just as easily argue that you finally find a girl that was attracted to your look. See the problem?

Looks trump confidence in most cases.
My review. But there's always an x factor.

Bro hope you are sleeping with her, otherwise she could be laughing at you. You are talking on the phone with a girl who is telling you what a guy needs to sleep with a girl? She's already told you don't have confidence or looks to sleep with her.

I would have said "that's nice, want to watch a movie at my place?"

Less talk, more action.

I've made the mistake in the past of getting advice from women...
Some women actually are pretty clever and can give you some solid advice. However, from my experience, it's better to avoid it most of the time.

Oh, you can get advice from them for sure...just not in dating/relationship/sex issues.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

I don't buy this at all. I think we all know an attractive dude when we see one. I can pretty much predict what guys all my female friends are likely to be interested in. It's not hard.

We can easily agree on plenty of hot guys. No doubt.

But I'm sure there are some guys that look hideous to us men but still seem to have decent girls with them. Women don't F ugly guys. Her perception has to be different in those cases.

Well, if you put it like that.....

Those are some good affirmations btw. Which I fully believe in, and I feel is important while improving or building your confidence. The mind is a powerful thing.

Here's my rebuttal:

If a guy thinks he's a 10 but he's really a 5 I believe that would be a false confidence and detrimental to him. Someone who is overly confident and thinks he can just walk down the street and have girls hitting on him, begging for his attention, eventually will lose that confidence and, in turn, his reality will be turned upside down.

I feel just attaining confidence, out of thin air, is like building a house made of sticks....easily breakable. True that women can like you for other traits about you, ...and your game and so forth....so being somewhat realistic and focusing on those aspects, and improving yourself by building a solid foundation, I feel will help you out greater in the long run.

I've had those bouts of tremendous confidence, and not just from the liquid courage:) , and they're great. Those are the times when works going well, I have some hot plates spinning, friends all have my back. But once that stuff starts to disappear, and I'm going through rough waters, my confidence and character could waiver tremendously because my confidence was based on outside forces: i.e. what people think of me, and how other people are treating me, how much money is in my bank account. It wasn't based from what's inside me. It was a false confidence.

Who are you when everything you have is taken away?

Confidence is key, and a vital aspect of inner game. I feel the best way to gain and maintain a solid and real confidence is to stay somewhat grounded. "know thyself". Let the confidence be true and grow from within. :)

You may not ever reach that "tremendous" level, but it will be solid, and your character will be strong.

True that women can like you for other traits about you

Well first off i agree with this^

The other fools on this thread talking about looks sound like a bunch of butthurt overweight dudes, trying to make excuses for themselves. Looks play nowhere near the part that they do in males attracting females as in females necessity to be beautiful to attract males.

If a guy thinks he's a 10 but he's really a 5 I believe that would be a false confidence and detrimental to him.

Its still better for a guy to think hes a 10 than for him to acknowledge hes a 5. And besides men being rated on their looks is irrelevant. He needs to think hes the sh1t overall....not just good to look at.

eventually will lose that confidence and, in turn, his reality will be turned upside down.

this^ happens to everyone.

Whether we like to admit it or not, we will go through some rough sh1t. Couple bad things happen and if you havent fully internalized an alpha mindset doubts will creep in, confidence will waver, and depression ensues. Confidence in this scenario would be having the balls to let things run off your back like water on a duck. Persistence(confident persistence). If a dude gets down on his luck and STAYS THERE....thats on him, regardless of his confidence level and/or how he got there.

I feel just attaining confidence, out of thin air, is like building a house made of sticks

To a degree. Id say its more like building a skyscraper and an earthquake occurs. The structure becomes damaged and is now worse than before....but the builders come in and rebuild the building. After a "low/tough" period the building will be stronger now....and perhaps another earthquake hits and the building becomes damaged....IT IS STILL STRONGER THAN BEFORE THE FIRST EARTHQUAKE. Confidence is a progression, and in the beginning its better to start with shaky "ground support" than no support.

I've had those bouts of tremendous confidence, and not just from the liquid courage , and they're great.

Key is to turn these bouts into a continuous thing. Never ending. Whatever you gotta do...give yourself affirmations, stare at yourself in the mirror for an hour, think your the sh1t....they all work towards the same goal.

my confidence and character could waiver tremendously because my confidence was based on outside forces

A ha. This is your big "a ha" moment. I dont advocate for confidence on outside forces aka "looks", bank accounts, etc. I mean pure confidence that needs to be built from within. Thats why im all for the "fake it til you make it"....from within. If you tell yourself your the sh1t, thats not an outside force. Thats relying on yourself for the confidence. If an outside force(lets say a woman) dares challenge that reality and lets say rejects you....the alpha male laughs it off to himself and thinks "wow lol her loss". Outside forces are minimized or better yet....absent.

I feel the best way to gain and maintain a solid and real confidence is to stay somewhat grounded. "know thyself".

Im curious....what would you advise a 33 yr old virgin with a sh1t job and plays video games all day to do? Hes got next to zero confidence...would you advise him to acknowledge himself and how pathetic he is, and try to build confidence when there is nothing there to build with....or start by making him feel good and let his mind build upon that "good feeling" (fake confidence)?

You may not ever reach that "tremendous" level, but it will be solid

He11 with that^ i say reach for the stars. Strive for excellence, fuk being mediocre.

Plate, our thoughts are a lot more close than you think. Instead of your gripe being with "faking confidence", it should be on "placing your confidence upon superficial things". Perhaps through my responses above, you can see what i mean by building/faking confidence and how it can be much more positive than a negative.....but maybe its just me since i came from a place of no confidence yearssss ago....so im biased;)

I literally one day just started faking it and telling myself im the sh1t and im literally one of the best things that happen to people in their lives...sure i had rough patches, but i pushed on. Kept building and building and the next thing you know....Im the exception.

This goes in the "just be yourself" category; just be yourself, be so very proud of who you are right now without any improvements, you are the prize, you'll meet a girl when you least expect it, etc etc. All very comfortable, gives you a kick since it means you don't have to make an effort. Some thoughts about this:

1. When a woman tells you to "just be yourself" and that all you need is confidence about what you have right now, she is thinking of a man she is already attracted to.

2. Confidence is one factor out of many.

3. If confidence was the only thing you needed, then a lot of losers you see out on the town on Friday nights, who think they are God's gift to women when people around them just think they look and act like idiots, would score every night. Instead they don't score at all.

4. What other category would this advice work in, "all you need is confidence"? How about driving a car; you don't need to learn how to drive, you just need confidence? How about medicine? How about sales? How about succeeding in sports? How about succeeding in games? How about learning a language? How about succeeding as a speaker or as a politician? No? Yet "all you need is confidence" or "just be yourself" would work when getting women, even though it works nowhere else? If it was that easy, everyone would be doing it.

5. Guys might want to consider that they have competition - a lot of competition. The hotter the woman, the tougher the competition. And the other guys are probably just as self-confident as you are, or more. So why would you only need confidence in order to beat them? Why wouldn't you need to match them, and outdo them, in other ways too? Does the world stop and the competition go away just because you have confidence, same as they do?

6. Women give this kind of advice: "Just be yourself, just be confident, just believe in yourself!" because it sounds good, not because it works. It is safe for them to say. They don't have to stick their necks out and take risks. Since everyone else is saying "just be yourself" etc, they can't be faulted for saying the same thing. Hiding among the crowd, as so often. When people give advice to you they think about the consequences for themselves first of all, for you second.

7. Does this work for women too, or only magically for men? Let's imagine a woman who is oozing self-confidence; she thinks no other woman is as good as she. But she is fat, she has bad breath, she has early wrinkles and yellow fingers from chain smoking, she doesn't take showers, she wears dirty clothes, she is rude and loud, she swears, she obsesses over her cats, she has been unemployed for years. But ... she has confidence. Is that enough for her to catch desirable partners? If not, why would it be enough for you?

8. Women HATE the thought of guys getting girls through "tricks". They will never give you tips on how to catch a woman. That is why they talk about confidence, or just be yourself, or you'll find someone when you least expect it. They want a lot more than that, but they are not going to tell you. Because they want the guy to do a lot more naturally, because he is just so awesome, not as a way to catch women.

They want you to be born James Dean, they don't want you to look and act like James Dean because you want to catch women, even if no one can tell the difference between you and the original.

A simple example: Let's say women are impressed by a guy owning a motorbike. Let's say that all other things being equal, a guy with a motorbike will look more interesting than a guy who rides a bicycle. A girl is not going to tell you that. She wants you to own a motorbike because you are a naturally cool guy, not because you were advised that it is a way to improve your chances with women.

Women are hypocrites in this, without thinking about it. They put on makeup to increase their beauty, even though this is not natural beauty. They work out, they fix their hair, they get a tan, they put on a sexy dress. And ever since childhood they have been talking to other girls about guys, how the guys react when you do or say different things. They have no need for a SoSuave forum, because they have been in training their whole lives. Through the advice passed on from older girls to younger girls, they know how to improve their chances with the most desirable specimens of the opposite sex. But when you do the same thing, it is artificial and manipulative. So they won't give you any advice that would help you "manipulate" women.

Confidence, self-esteem, self-worth, being an Alpha.....these all go together. Your character, how you handle yourself in varying degrees of situations is key to obtaining and keeping a high quality woman.

I like this topic. As I've said before, if I make it to 1000 posts I'm going to tell my story, which is somewhat directly related to this thread.

TheException, you have some great points, I don't know all the answers, I go mostly on experience, and have a lot of it, many successes, many more failures.....with a lot of self-analyzing. This forum is at times a sort of therapy for me. And like the addage, making it through those rough times does build character. But right now my brain feels fried so I want to revisit your points later. :) I agree though, I think our thoughts are both pointed in the same direction.

Wolfgang, as I read on a previous thread not too long ago, AtomSmasher: "Be your best self". Women should start adding the "best" part, might make things less confusing for us men haha.

You either knowingly or unknowingly hit on my point on false confidence.
If confidence was the only thing you needed, then a lot of losers you see out on the town on Friday nights, who think they are God's gift to women when people around them just think they look and act like idiots, would score every night. Instead they don't score at all.
They need to understand that although they have confidence, other traits are lacking, i.e. game.

But confidence is still the key. The confidence in yourself, even when you fail ;) The ability to come back from all of those rejections, believe in yourself, and know there is still a better YOU out there.

Having strong inner confidence is one thing this forum has helped me with. I could never walk around thinking I'm a 10 in looks though. First off, I don't believe in 10s, they don't exist. The highest I've ever rated a girl was 9.2.

Secondly, if I was a 10 in looks, girls would be hitting on me practically everywhere I go. If I thought I was a 10, my reality would constantly be in conflict with what I thought, because I would have expectations of how a 10 would be reacted to.

I figure, realistically, I'm about a 7. And that matches the reaction I get. But I still have high confidence because I don't think being a 7 in looks is bad. And if you add my 7 looks to my other tangibles and intangibles, I think I end up being a hell of a good catch. And that is a genuine, rock solid opinion.

Taking your golf, or sports, analogy: I notice that a lot of the time if I go out very confidently, I end up playing like sh!t. While other times I'll go out with very low expectations and feeling like I'm not that good, I end up playing very well and surprising myself. So that mindset doesn't always work. I do try to think positively overall though.

Yes, that's always the follow-up when you call someone on the "just be yourself" nonsense. Always it is then followed by "be your BEST self", but that was not what they said in the beginning. And it doesn't add anything whatsoever. What, did anyone think that "just be yourself" meant being your worst?

The phrase still doesn't mean anything. It doesn't mean that you should lose weight and lift weights, because you should just "be" what you already are, but in the "best" way. It doesn't mean any of the tips in the DJ Bible. Everything we have learned here goes out the window, if the only advice is to JUST be your ("best!") self.

If I had only been "myself" or "my BEST self", I wouldn't have learned to use cold opens. I wouldn't have learned to pull back and not text a girl too often. I wouldn't have learned to spin plates. I wouldn't have learned to change my dress style. I wouldn't have learned how to make a date conversation more interesting, more open-ended, and less like an interview. I wouldn't have learned to cut a date short. I wouldn't have learned to take a girl to different places. I wouldn't have learned about kino, and different tips for initiating kino.

And so on. All of this required CHANGE. Not "just be yourself". Or "your BEST self". None of that was part of my "self". It came from outside.

So it's bullshi't advice to give to a young man who hasn't had a date in two years. Obviously the man has been himself, probably his "best" if he isn't stupid, and it wasn't good enough. He needs to include other behaviors that he doesn't already have.

Like I wrote above: name any other scene in life where "JUST be yourself" would work as the only thing you need. To JUST be yourself excludes all other advice. Driving a car? You don't need to learn the traffic rules and driving techniques? Sales? I have been in sales. Try to not learn sales techniques from the veterans and see how far you get.

No, this is one of my pet peeves, because it is dumb. Especially dumb since those who make themselves look morally superior by saying "JUST be your (best) self", as if they wouldn't need the dirty manipulation that is personal change for the sake of catching girls ... actually don't follow that advice themselves. They change, or try to change, if it gives them more sex. Or more of whatever they want. So they are hypocrites. I want to take the "just be yourself" phrase and poison it, stab it, shoot it, and bury it six feet under on the outskirts of town on a dark and stormy night. Then dig it up and shoot it again, just because it's Christmas and I'm feeling generous.

I look at it a different way. When I'm at bar guy, I see guys trying to impress girls all the time, girls can read that. A guy trying too hard. I used to do it as well. I didn't always feel a girl should like me for me. I would aim to please, to impress.....usually with a negative outcome.

How do you think James Dean, for example, acted? He wasn't really that good looking, higher than average yes. But he was cool. He didn't care what other people thought of him. He was comfortable with who he was.....he was himself. He was comfortable in his own skin. And that right there, is highly attractive to women.

That's where that phrase comes from. It doesn't mean you should stop trying to better yourself. You always should be doing that, no matter where you are in life. But when you're out picking up on the ladies, be your "best" self.....

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.
