Getting too personal....

ok so im at work...me and some other co-workers were sort of chillen and this girl stacy was talking to this other co-worker of ours james over the phone...some other co-workers were joking talking about "i think somethings going on between them and yada yada yada...'' so she says their just friends... so today i go up to her and say "so how are things going between you and james??" and she gives me this mean look....

so then my other co-worker fred overheard it and came up to me later and said "hey...dont joke like that..." i said "why?" he said "thats not cool...its at work! its not cool!!" so then i laugh it off...

then it hit me....am i getting to personal with my co-workers?? i mean yeah i just work with them and its none of my business if they are going out or not cuz when it comes down to it...i only work with them...were not friends...

i need to fix this about myself...any advice??

Never get personal with co-workers!

this is just a rule of life. Don't be too friendly, just concentrate on your job. Coworkers are some of the most gossip loving, backstabbing people around.

If you allow yourself to be too friendly with them, this leaves you open for disrespect. If you keep your relationship with them strictly on a profesional level you will be respected and nobody is gonna mess with you.

2 possibilities

1. They are doing something and it is frowned on by the business you work at.

2. They were, or almost were, and things got tense and nobody wants to deal with the situation. (hence the no relations with other employees most workplaces have)

Either way, you're a little behind the gossip or you're not picking up the vibes most of the other employees already noticed. You don't have that particular gossip skill. Overall, this probably means you are a better person so don't try to develop it. Getting too good at gossip is a sign of weak character. Play along to be social but don't try to initiate unless you want to be the ugliest of "the girls".

It depends on the girl you're saying this too.. I'd imagine if she has a sense of humour she would just laugh it off..

I'm guessing she's one of those frigid boring types, that's why you're co-workers told you that it's not cool to mess with her like that.

Either way, who cares.. what you said was a pretty innocent comment.
