I just went on a vacation to this hotel type thingy, and they had this club for teens. Everyone was grinding (freak dancing w/e u wanna call it) except me. I can dance well enough, but I just don't know how to start grinding. Do you just go up to a girl and start doing it or what? Is there some sort of protocol you should follow to not scare her off?

Just tap her on the shoulder and she'll get the idea, or you could also just dance up on her and go at it.

One of the best intros I've ever come up with is also one of the simplest.
Stand next to the girl you want to talk too, crack an evil smile, and start bumpin you butt against hers! Sounds easy, and it is.
I've never done this without the girl cracking a HUGE smile and getting into the butt bumpin. They love it! Of course, this is a club technique, so don't try it in the mall. But I've done it at parties and it works well.
The best application is on the dance floor... Slide up next to the girl and start bumpin butts. Then after the 3rd or fourth hit slide behind her and start freakin. Try it tonight!"

I used to just sneak up from behind and start grindin and it was working most of the time. But lately alot of girls would get mad if I do it that way. Now just before I start grindin I'll grab them and say lets dance. This way has been working better for me.
To get more comfortable doing it start with fat girls. They would let anyone dance with them and when you see how easy it is you will get more confidence.
