I considered putting this in the Health and Fitness forum however I think this is more of a vanity issue..
For a long time I have wanted to do some sort of martial art, something useful in real life and also something where I could mix with other men and take a few hits, and give a few back myself. Kickboxing, Boxing and Brazilian Jujitsu are what have always appealed to me, probably because I enjoyed watching mma, one of the few sports that I can actually watch and be interested in. I guess I also hold value in being able to handle yourself in an altercation, I think this is important as a man and something that is very primal within us that nowadays is very much missing in the average male.
The problem I have is that I don't want to mess up my face, or my joints. I'm 34 now, I was good looking when I was younger, not as much now as I'm getting older however, still good looking, and I've relied heavily, unfortunately, on my 'facial aesthetics' over the years to get women.
I also don't want to be limping around during my work week, or struggling to type because my hands are screwed from grappling and punching, or hitting 60 and being riddled with joint pain..
So my question I guess is, for anyone who does mma, what are the chances of me training 3 to 4 times a week and coming out with cauliflower ears, broken nose, weathered skin and injuries after a year training? Will this inevitably happen? And if it does happen is it worth the trade off?
Also how have you found women react to cauliflower ears etc, is it a turn off?
