Let me tell you a little about evolution. The key principle of evolution is "Survival of the fittest".
For example if a bird who live in the jungle suddenly have a offspring that is mutated so it has green feathers that melt in to the environment very well, it will have a much better chance of surving, than a bird with white colour for example.
The green bird is fitter to survive than the white bird. Human is a product of this evolution, we have evolved from small creatures to larger and more complex creatures. We survived and got superior because we were the most fit creature to survive.
Now to the real issue. DJing i a very similar thing. There are numerous techniques here that generally work very well and most often get you a good result. But because it works for someone else and his style it doesn't mean it will work for you.
You are a totally different person and you will have many different conditions that are unique to you. If a thing isn't working for you and it is working for someone else, don't spend time trying to get it work, try to evolve this technique or come up with a new one that does work.
Specialize your DJ-skills so it fit you. Try to experiment and come up with new stuff that work for you. Soon you will have that "gut" feeling that tells you if you are doing right or wrong. ALWAYS trust your gut. It is perfectly right to bend or even break the rules written on this site if you feel that they are not fitted for that moment you are experience.
You may find that your techniques may get very specialized and have high critera for their use, it is good, they are often more powerfull than the overall techniques. As human beings are more complex and useful than planktons.
The main thing is: You should NEVER tie yourself down to what others write or say what works. If it doesn't work for you then shove it out through the window, use your own material if it give you better results. Cause that is what you are interrested in; what you will get in the end. The way to the goal is irrelevant.
Try to evolve as a DJ.
- Awkward
"There is no way of becoming a DJ over a night, it takes practice, lot of practice, every thing needs a lot of time to work and to be learned. Take one step at the time, don't rush it, just have fun.
