Employment as a Personal Trainer?

Anybody know if a personal trainer is a feasible option as a part-time job? How hard is it to get certificated, and what's the general cost?

Google the websites for ACSM or NSCA certifications as they are considered the best certifications. NSCA-CPT or NSCA CSCS or one of the various ACSM certifications would be a good bet to get respect and a job at a health club. ACE (american council on exercise) cerfications and others are less well repected as they are much easier to get.

Do you have any sort of undergraduate degree in the biological science or exercise science, that would surely help too? Some of the above certifications (ASCM or NSCA) require 4 year degrees in order to take the exam.

There are also sports specific certifications...

most exams cost 120-400 to be certified

One cynical view is your best credentials are your young and good looking.

The fitness centre can employ you cheaply and if you look good the ladies sign up (and gayboys).

I suspect if you match that criteria, they can cope with you part time, on part time wages of course.

So what about online certificates like NESTA? They claim that their graduates are employed in nearly every state.
