Hi, since there is no gym at my apt complex and I don't want to pay the outrageous gym fees at 24 hour, I'm looking for a cheap way to get ahold of some equipment so I can work out at home. I think a simple pair of dumbells will work really well as I can get a lot of exercises out of them (opinions?). I probably want to get something that is adjustable from 5 to 50ish lbs. If anyone has any suggestions on what brand or type to get, or if I'm even on the right track here, I'd appreciate them. Thanks!

Great idea. You might wanna try those bow-flex DBs they advertise on TV all the time. The kind that adjust from like 5-55 lbs, they look pretty neat and wont take up much room. You also might wanna pick up the Body For Life book, it has tons of workouts for DBs, and has a lot of great info for taking care of your body, I think its about $20

I'd look for something that goes heavier than 50 lbs because that's gonna end up being really limiting. After a few weeks you'll be pumping out 20+ reps on all your exercises.

Edit: And as a side note... I've seen the ads for the bowflex dumbells, and as nice as they look, I'd go somewhere else personally. Just don't put much faith in their products (especially considering they had problems with overhead bars breaking or something? yikes:eek: )

I can't seem to find a dumbbell set higher than 50lbs on gijoes website. Does anyone know someone who carries a bigger set? Or will I have to buy addons

yeah dude... depending on how built you wanna be, you might need DB's up to like 100-120 lbs.

What I did was start off with a no nonsense iron disc set, cheap and fuctional, don't pay for gimmicky brand name stuff.

Start lifting and just keep an eye out for second hand discs, you will almost certainly pick up a barbell with them cheap. You'll find loads of people giving them away almost, because they've quit.

You may want to get some micro discs, very useful for progression.
