"So, What Do You Do for Fun?"

She asks it casually, mid-sip. And you feel the floor open up, because the honest answer is work, gym, and a couple shows you're half-watching.

Women rarely say this out loud, but a man with a life is attractive before he says a word. The guy who spent Saturday deep-sea fishing and came back with photos and a story — he walks in already interesting.

The "22 Rules" pushed me to build a life worth talking about. Turns out the fastest way to be interesting to women is to be interested in your own life first.

Fast-forward to 2007 and you are considered lucky if you by-pass their voicemail and get a live person. You never truly know where a person is when you call them. Voicemail, IM’s, text messages, communication devices are becoming more elaborate and are making society more anti-social & impatient. I guess the new catch phrase is E-social, one on one contacts will soon be obsolete. This is the latest form of competition, people now encounter on a daily basis. Many new questions arise; do we leave a voicemail, if she got the voicemail why has she not called me back?, are they at home, should we be completely honest about their profile pictures, what does it mean if they never answer their cell-phone, is it okay to cancel a date via texted message, why do they rarely turn on their camera phone when answering, is it okay to record audio/visual on a date, why is their phone pass-word protected, etc. Perpetual daters download pics/profiles to keep track of mini-dates prior
to meeting and then quickly delete info if things don’t work out. Texed messages are substituted for meaningful vocal conversations when relationships encounter problems. The cell-phone is ever changing and it has influenced the way in which we communicate and ultimately date. Behold the power of the cell-phone. Stalkers can call you when they are nearby, intimate pictures can be instantly exchanged, people can send love video’s or songs, send E-greetings, sympathy cards, emoticons, etc. Most cell-phones contain voice memo which is great for remembering WHERE U PARKED or her name.

It’s great if you are running late, get lost and need directions, or if you forgot something while grocery shopping, need to reschedule due to unforeseen circumstances, emergencies. Cell-phones also have digital recording capabilities to capture events live, as well as camera’s to depict all the places you been, chics you banged, famous people u met, etc. You can also use it as an escape a date tool by pretending someone text’d you for an emergency. Cell phones are also making a fashion statement and are now a must have accessory to any outfit. A person’s cell-phone can reveal a lot about their social status. Everything from the brand name of the phone, to the color and even your ringtone all reveal a little bit about you and what you are into. The cell phone can be a handy portable wingman you can whip out when you need a quick pick-up line, some motivational encouragement or serve as evidence of social proof to your buddies. It gives you instant access to prior communications, numerous dating profiles, pictures, tips, news, ice-breakers all at the touch of a few buttons. Did you know as of 2007 15% of all downloads now come from cell phone ringtones. Sending affection on the fly via cell phone is a growing trend. If you do not have a cell-phone maybe it’s time you got one and became more E-social. It’s great when you can’t find a pen to write down their number, looks very cool at night with the glowing keypad. Games and video’s when you are really bored and cool when you need to find someone in a noisy, crowded bar.

its like a portable wingman........the old days of got a pen and finding a piece of paper and trying to write ina club are just plain gone.

"Stop Asking Your Friends What to Text Her"

Your buddy Dave has been single for three years and thinks "hey u up" is a valid strategy. Your other buddy Mike just got dumped and told you to "just be yourself."

You showed them her text. You asked them to decode the emoji. You drafted four responses and sent the screenshot to the group chat for a vote.

She's been waiting forty minutes.

Put the phone down. Stop crowdsourcing your love life. Type something that sounds like you. Hit send. Then go do literally anything else with your evening.

Let's go back to the days before computers were invented.

Oh yeah, life will be so much easier.

Use technology to your advantage instead of crying about it like a girl.

"I just moved here from Florida."

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?

She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."

She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.

I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.
