is it ever ok to talk about money? every scenario that I can think of makes you look cheap

examples:
girl: nice shirt
guy: thanks, it was only $25, I couldn't believe it
girl: this guy is cheap

guy: wanna go out?
girl: yes
guy: ok, my treat
girl: this guy is cheap

is it ever ok to talk about money or to make money an issue?

i agree and if shirt was 250 you would look like some who is full of it and is trying too hard/insecure
