My dinning commons doesn't have any flax oil, so I decided to squirt some olive oil into my post workout shake today. I thought it wouldn't go well, but I can tolerate it to get some healthy fats in. Well, i'm trying it, and its friggin good.

There is the taste of olive oil, but it surprisingly goes well with sweet flavor of the whey. The added fat probably makes it more enjoyable too. Feels closer to a milkshake now.

Yum!

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

... Why do you want fat in your post-workout shake when a) insulin is high and b) you want quick-absorbing nutrients?

whey + carbs yes.

fat slows down digestion (delaying the nutrient transportation into the muscle cells and thus recovery) and also may be stored as bodyfat in the presence of high insulin. plus the body burns its own fat after a workout, it won't do so if you give it other fat to burn.

Thanks for the info, I'm on it.

I just remembered that my nutrition professor said a meal of protiens+fats is the slowest to digest. So the olive oil may slow down the protien absorption also.

Protein+fats is the slowest to digest, he's right. But why would you want slow digestion after a workout and add to your recovery time?

Well, I just learned that post workout: protien and carbs
Preworkout: lots of complex carbs, healthy fats, protien (although I heard some athletes reccomend no carbs pre-workout. Only carbs that should be takken preworkout are fruits)
Rest of the meals: carbs/protien/fat

Also, some people recomend no carbs before sleep, I havn't looked into that too much though.

WBA-- i've heard that Whey gives a pretty big insulin spike if taken on it's own, especially since it's quick in and quick out of the body. So for taking it (other than PWO) wouldn't it be best to mix fat in with it? How much fat per gram of protein is the best to maximize digestion time and keep my body with a healthy supply of protein all day/night?

Yes, mix fat with your whey to slow absorption. Whole eggs or oil or peanut butter or whatever fits your diet best. I'd go with 10-20g of fat to slow digestion. So 2-3 eggs or a tbsp of oil or 2 tbsp peanut butter..
