I was reading this, and it got me interested:
my opinion: Although soldiers are de facto brave Alphas, their strict hierarchical regimen really Beta-tizes them - necessarily to the Commander, of course - but these men also carry that attitude over to their home life, where the "Commander" at home bosses them around almost as much as the guys with the stripes, bars, oak leaves & stars - thereby leaving that "Commander" not being as interested in them when they were dating a military man. And this, along with long deployments and moves (i.e., where the wife might stay back a while, etc.), gives these "Commanders" the ability to hypergamously upgrade without hindrance - and having the full weight of the thoroughly gynocentric military Office of Family (or whatever it's called) to tell the soldier to "man up" at home.
