In light of the recent conviction of the Chad-tier rapist who got off without any prison sentence, the only think I can come up with is that these defendants are so ugly that it was OVER for them even before the trial:

The emotionally charged trial was imbued with racism from the defense, who sought to dehumanize Arbery and paint him as a criminal.
