Hey guys,

Trying to compare workout regimens to see what others are doing out there for soccer training.

I'm currently in indoor season so training accordingly. Sprint / jog, alternating in paces of about 50 yards. Some light weights, then ankle stability exercises, then a bit of ball work. I'm working on improving my shot right now (speed and accuracy) and have seen drastic improvement in the span of about 3 weeks doing so.

I play indoor soccer once or twice a week just for fun.

Fitness wise, I do weighted cardio (Tabata-style), burpees, push press and powercleans - for explosiveness. Squats also help with my jumping power.

I'm pretty fit - usually among the fittest on the field, but my techniques aren't too crash hot. :p I make up for that by running around hustling people like Carlos Tevez.

i play for a semi-pro team here in the UK, but since indoor is a lot different to 11-a-side, its important you mainly do ball work and technique, and get used to the idea of always being on the move.

Everyone is a defender when you don't have the ball, and everyone becomes a midfielders and strikers when you do. Dribbling is good when theres is space to go in to, but I find the main thing with 5-a-side is making movement forward and making good space as an option for the pass, constantly switching positions with your teams mates and working the ball around. When you don't have it, everyone needs to hustle like Tevez and Park Ji.

Also work hard on shooting the ball hard- It doesn't have to fly in a top corner ikn five a side. Train yourself from now on to have decided what you are going to do with ball before you have even recieved the pass.

The most successful 5 a side teams are the ones who have played together and know their game the best. So at every opportunity get the guys together and play. In my club training everyone is only allowed 3 touches. I would imagine in 5 a side it needs to be quicker, so try and train so that you are only allowed two touches of the ball- one to control it, the other to pass or shoot. This helps your team advance and work the ball and actually make opportunities.

So in short, its not about sprinting or running, but stamina and energy. Hustle when defenidng, and create space when in possession.

Do mostly ball work, learning to move the ball quicker in any situation, and shooting hard on target.
