I've had cold sores pop up on my lip about every month as far back as I can remember. It really takes a toll on your self esteem and how you interact with people. Anyway, as you can imagine, it's really tough to sarge with a big crusty sore on your lip.
I was in a relationship for 5 years with a girl who never got a cold sore in her life. I would always get them, we'd avoid kissing on the lips when I had one. She never caught it. It's my understanding that most people in the US have it, but only a few actually break out with them.
I finally got rid of them, after I started taking the drug Zovirax. It's a pharmaceutical that works amazingly well to help prevent a full on outbreak. You take it right when you feel the tingling of a cold sore coming on.
A few years ago, I'd get a sore about once every 3 months. Now, I get one about once a year.

i've got it! I used to get cold sores about once a year but I was sick of going crazy for a week. I literally wouldn't come out of my room because of the way it is viewed by society
Now I take 500 mg of lysine dailiy and I haven't had it in 2 years.
