"The Coffee Shop Girl You Never Spoke To"

You've replayed it a hundred times. She stood three feet away, scrolling her phone. You had an opening. You composed the perfect line — after she was gone.

For all you know, she's married now. To some guy who said something. Anything.

Openers are cheap. Almost any sentence works when it's delivered within three seconds. The expensive part is the standing there, drafting and deleting, while the window quietly closes.

The "22 Rules" stripped out my hesitation. What to open with, how to keep it alive, and the one habit that costs guys more women than anything else: waiting for perfect.

So, I walk in the mall and soon as I walk in a female AT&T Sales rep signals me to come over. I signal to her I already have a phone but she still signals me to come over so I do. Heres how the short convo went. The whole time I was smiling and she was smiling.

Her: How old are you?
Me: 23
She extends her hand and I extend mine.
Her: You should buy your girlfriend a phone.
Me: I don't have one.
Her: Who are you with.
Me: Sprint.
Her: Tell her to sprint her way back then.

Then as soon as she says that she turns around and goes to the opposite end of the kiosk. So I walk off saying to my self "I should have kept up the convo" but she turned her back to me and walked off so I didnt. So my first question is would you have still attempted to talk to her even though she turned her back and walked away from you? My other question is do you really take what female sales reps say seriously or do you think their main focus is to flirt with you to get you to buy their product.

"Why Women Dump the Guys Who Try the Hardest"

You paid for dinner. You drove. You said "whatever you want is fine" every single time. All the effort, no expectations.

And she left anyway — probably for a guy who makes her pick up the pizza.

Painful. Also predictable. Her mind quietly concludes that anything requiring zero effort from her is worth exactly zero. You became a free sample, and free samples get taken for granted.

The 22 Rules flip the dynamic. Small shifts that get her investing effort, money, and time in you — until SHE'S the one afraid of losing YOU.

Speaking from experience at having hired a friend who's a stereotypical beach blond w/ bubbly personality to be a booth bunny at a tradeshow, prospective sales magically appear. Geeks are all entranced by a pretty girl talking to them that they cough up their credit cards.

So, the thing to do is call them on their B.S. Say something C&F like "Are you trying to pick me up or are you trying to get me to spend money on a phone?"

I'd have asked her how long the average wait time was to speak to a customer care representitive. I've never gotten through in less than 10 minutes... oftentimes as many as 20. AT&T Wireless (now Cingular) is the worst of the worst... as I well know, having just ended my 2 year contract with them and switched to T-Mobile 4 months ago. Sure, what I would have said wouldn't have been C&F, it's just P&A. That is, Pissed & Angry. Hell, they're still sending me bills for $4-$6 that even the customer care people don't understand what they're for... then when they refund the charge, it comes back doubled. Grr...

By the way, Panty... she wasn't interested in you as anything more than a potential customer. When she found out she wasn't going to get your credit card, she cut her losses and walked away - continuing at that point would have had no purpose to it, for either of you.

I love how AFCs in here assume that female serviceworkers actually see them as date material.

My friends are always like this and I just tell them "Ask them out!" and they always tell me.. Maybe I should go back (and in the process spending more money.)

A real man apart from a regular man would not be that gullible.

"I just moved here from Florida."

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?

She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."

She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.

I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.

Well said ;)

That last line she said was weird as hell. You should have been like "tell who to sprint back?" Haha :D

or could have been suave and said

"Naa she's long gone, but what about you ;) ? You're still here ;) "
